This is a comprehensive, exhaustively researched biography and history of Oppenheimer, his family and his associates. It has a strong narrative structure the reads much like a Greek trajedy. Very valuable reading or listening.

The narration by Jeff Cummings is very good. He is fluent and engaging.

The one, very odd, failing of this recording is the audio quality. It has the quality of a recording of an abridged reading of the book that has been intercut with additional narration to make it an unabridged recording. The audio quality of what sounds like additions is substantial different in volume, tone and voice clarity. It is like, every so often and at random, the narrator is reading a footnote rather than the main text. It is very distracting. Audible should re-engineering the audio on this recording. At 26 hours this poor quality audio cutting is hard to endure.

This is an invaluable guide to DEI implementation.
It describes research with regard to what works and what does not. The performance, unfortunately, is terrible. Every sentence is delivered with the same sing - song pattern if raising and lowering of voice . Every sentence is delivered so that you are to believe that you have just been given a secret insight. In the end I deleted the audiobook and bought the Kindle version.

A Book That Helps to Understand Our Current Time

This is a book that is based on rigorous research across countries and time. This being said, it is very accessible. It's concepts and frameworks are fact-based but also ring true from general experience. Even if one is not interested in the specific subject of the origins of civil wars, it informs on the topic of how democracies can slip toward autocracy. Walter's truest, most troubling statement is that we need not worry about autocratic takeover as a result of a military coup. Rather, today, movement toward autocracy is being driven by voters themselves.
