I am a fan of Esken’s, and this novel did not disappoint. He always does such a good job, developing characters and adding nice details for the local Minnesotans. I also recommend “the life we bury,” one of my favorite books of all time.

SOOOOOO Boring

I did not finish this book-- it was so annoying and boring. . . I did not care about any of the characters and did not care how it ended. I normally love these kind of books, too.

I wanted to love it

This book was recommended by everyone, so I looked forward to it. But I found the protagonist to be unsympathetic and I did not really care what happened to her. The story was somewhat predictable and mostly, really sad. REALLY sad.

Where does We Are Water rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is an extraordinary book. It starts off a little weird, but stick with it, as is all weaves together. It is one of the best books I have ever listened to, but I love Lamb's writing.

If you could rename We Are Water, what would you call it?

We are Abstract.

I remember this being my favorite book one summer when I was in college. Now 20 years later I revisited it and remembered all the reasons that I loved it. Wally Lamb is one of the finest writers have had the pleasure of reading

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. The book was predicable and, well annoying. If I wanted to hear whiny characters who have first world problems and think life is miserable, I would watch the Kardashians.

Would you be willing to try another book from Nora Ephron? Why or why not?

No. Her character was whiny and weak. I did not see her as a person I would ever spend time with in real life. I just wanted the book to end. I didn't care how it ended--just that it would be over.

What does Meryl Streep bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is the perfect narrator for this book. I will leave it at that.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

An excellent debut

What did you love best about Stalking Susan?

The character development was thorough.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Well, the plot was similar to the Sue Grafton novels, and while I did predict the ending, I thought it was well explained.

What about Bernadette Dunne’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed her reading very much.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I would not make a movie of this book.

I think I read this book before

This was a typical Weiner book, and if you like her books, you will like this, but not as well as Good in Bed or In her shoes. Kate is her stock character and Janey is there to keep the excitement. I think I have read this book before in her others. . . it's kind of like Nicholas Sparks books. . . how many times can you hear the same story (or in this case have the same characters)?
