Historia
It can begin with a one-time event - typically some form of sudden loss that disrupts our projection of what the future might be. However, the true work of healing is allowing that disruption to wake us from a deep state of unconsciousness, to release the personas we adapted into, and begin consciously piecing together the full truth of who we were meant to be.

WORD SALAD!
Revisado: 02-07-25
I don’t know if I’m just really annoyed by the narrators voice or if the book is just this genuinely bad. The oversimplification of complex circumstances. The wishful thinking. The “you are awesome, if you just believe it!” I just can’t with this book.

Far-fetched and Prefictable

A solid 3 stars. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s enjoyable if you don’t have high expectations.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

This might be the best book I’ve ever read

Cried so much the final 2 hours and I’m not a crier. A profoundly touching story.

Hire a professional narrator please!!!
Revisado: 03-21-21
Author has a terrible idiosyncrasy in her speech, which goes beyond regional accent. She pronounces words ending in "-ed"
with a hard "t" sound. For example-- the word "ended" she pronounces end-ett. The word "initiated"- initiate-ett, "associated" she pronunces associate-ett, "embedded" as "embed-ett". ETC. I could NOT get past this, it was just so distracting. I had to return the book. I might try to get a print version.
To the publisher- please hire a professional narrator and re-do this audiobook. To other readers, definitely buy the print version.

Historia
Writer Karla Cornejo Villavicencio was on DACA when she decided to write about being undocumented for the first time using her own name. It was right after the election of 2016, the day she realized the story she'd tried to steer clear of was the only one she wanted to tell. So she wrote her immigration lawyer's phone number on her hand in Sharpie and embarked on a trip across the country to tell the stories of her fellow undocumented immigrants—and to find the hidden key to her own.

Ok
Revisado: 09-26-20
I don’t necessarily agree with all the politics, but overall found it a good read.
I also wished that a professional was hired to narrate this as the author was hard to understand at times. Not due to an accent, but due to vocal emphasis and (lack of) annunciation of words.
