Historia
Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

FAVORITE Dawkins Book!!!!!!
Revisado: 03-05-12
This was a the 1st book by Richard Dawkins that I read. I must say, I was hooked almost immediately! He may seem arrogant at times, but it's more passion and frustration than arrogance. I am thinking about going back and listening to it again, just for kicks. I am sure there is something I missed the first time around!

Not Quite What I Expected.
Revisado: 03-05-12
I remembered seeing a part of the movie awhile back and how it seemed interesting, in an after school special sort of way. It was similar to The Secret, but not was well organized. I felt sometimes like it was 3 people throwing out random opinions and platitudes. There is some good information within, once you can sift through it all. It didn't hold my attention as many books do. I actually stopped halfway and listened to an entire other book before returning.

Historia
For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Making dead people interesting again!
Revisado: 03-05-12
What can I say? I LOVE Mary Roach!! Ever since I read her columns in Readers Digest, I've been hooked on her! Just when you think you are going to lose it over some gory detail, in comes the wit. I lost count of the outburts of laughter. Good thing I was in the car. I had no interest in the topic of dead bodies, but since it was Mary, I gave it a shot. I learned more than I ever expected to and had fun along the way!

Historia
Vincent Bugliosi turns his critical eye on both religious believers and theatheists who reflexively oppose them. Here he indicts both camps, and argues that agnosticism is the most responsible position to take with regard to such eternal questions as the existence of God. Bugliosi examines such developments as the decline of belief in evolution and the disturbing vengefulness of God, as depicted in the Old Testament.

LOVED It!!!
Revisado: 03-05-12
There isn't much to say. I saw an interview with the author and HAD to read the book. In stark contrast to Dawkins, Bugilosi suggests that Agnosticism is the only logical way to be. Whereas, Dawkins basically calls us cowards (I still like Dawkins, regardless). It's a well planned and well reasoned book. Worth the time!

Historia
Picking up where Bible expert Bart Ehrman's New York Times best seller, Misquoting Jesus, left off, Jesus, Interrupted addresses the larger issue of what the New Testament actually teaches...and it's not what most people think. This is the book that pastors, educators, and anyone interested in the Bible have been waiting for, a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we face when attempting to reconstruct the life and message of Jesus.

I wouldn't read if you have weak faith
Revisado: 03-05-12
I started with Misquoting Jesus, by the same author. As a newly freed Agnostic, I was eager to know what lies I had been taught my whole life. This book was a great follow-up. There was some overlap, but that is needed so each book can stand alone. I actually found myself getting angry and some of the information. I was raised to believe that God inspired the Bible... not the case at all. If you are questioning, I highly recommend ANY book by this author!

Historia
The Greatest Show on Earth is a stunning counterattack on advocates of "Intelligent Design," explaining the evidence for evolution while exposing the absurdities of the creationist "argument". Dawkins sifts through rich layers of scientific evidence: from living examples of natural selection to clues in the fossil record; from natural clocks that mark the vast epochs wherein evolution ran its course to the intricacies of developing embryos; from plate tectonics to molecular genetics.

Historia
Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist, presents a gorgeously lucid, science book examining some of the nature’s most fundamental questions both from a mythical and scientific perspective. Science is our most precise and powerful tool for making sense of the world. Before we developed the scientific method, we created rich mythologies to explain the unknown. The pressing questions that primitive men and women asked are the same ones we ask as children. Who was the first person? What is the sun? Why is there night and day?

Never Disappointed!
Revisado: 03-05-12
Richard Dawkins never ceases to lure me in! As always, I was completely enthralled with this book. The performance is always top notch. My only warning... If you are a scientist, this may be a little elementary for you. It's a great book for people looking to know more about how the world works. The thing I found amusing was how on one hand Dawkins admits to having basically quantum knowledge; and on the next, he is making conclusions about things that require such knowledge. Conclusions, I might add, that I didn't 100% agree with. But that's Dawkins! No one can ever accuse him of not being passionate enough. This is the 4th book of his that I've read and I am in search of the next one to devour!

Historia
In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".

Just Scratched the Surface
Revisado: 03-05-12
The material is VERY interesting. However, when the book ended, I felt as though I missed something. I don't think the author went as deep on some subjects as he could have. There were several moments where I felt like I had spaced out and missed a transition to a new subject. The entire book was like one giant hypothetical question. It really makes you think, but if you want concrete answers or conclusions, this is not the book for you. The author was non-judgemental, but almost to a fault. I enjoyed it and I am also listening to The End of Faith, by the same author.
