Unfortunately, this book missed the mark. The audiobook voice was fine. The book content however… the only way to describe it is… weird. The title and subtitle suggest it’s science and evidence-based, so that’s what a reader expects. I am guessing that’s why the reviews are so low. It’s not a terrible book on sleep, it’s just not what’s promised to the reader. Entire chapters (literally almost half the book) didn’t even apply to me (children sleep and what to expect for a sleep study [I’ve already done a sleep study]). I have a child and those chapters didn’t even apply… I was looking for evidence-based facts, and I ended up with very odd and weird parenting advice. And the “case studies” were just stories of the author’s family or his neighbor. Or maybe a suggestion he made to a patient and they left “happy.” Very odd.. the messages just didn’t come across like they were meant to. Sure it was surrounding baby and toddler sleep, but I didn’t sign up for that when I purchased this book. The weird anecdotes were not just for the baby chapters, they were all throughout. Some were mildly funny, but again, I didn’t sign up for that. I wanted facts. I have read numerous sleep books. This book is a basic overview, very surface level topics that are barely skimmed over. Other basic sleep books go into deeper detail. That said, I did learn a couple (literally two) new things, so I’ve rated this 2 stars. But overall, purchasing this is something I regret. The title is a promise made from the author to the reader, and I felt that promise was not followed through on.
