Great book but abrupt, unsatisfying ending

This had me completely hooked and then just abruptly ended. It was so jarring I wondered if I had accidentally skipped ahead. Gildart Jackson is superb, as always. This feels like half of a great book.

What a huge disappointment. I've read every single book in this series but I was compelled to return this one 18 chapters in. The new narrator may be French Canadian, but he's not Gamache. The characters were indistinguishable from each other. What possessed Louise Penny to replace the brilliant Robert Bathurst? is beyond me. Criminal. The book is also not helped by the fact that the story is just silly.

Likeable characters, superior narration

While not as good as Osman's original series, Thursday Murder Club, this is an enjoyable read and the characters are likeable enough. Pretty silly story. It really helps that the narrator is one of my favorite British actresses, Nicola Walker. I'd say she was better than the material she was given, sort of like superior acting in an average movie.

Confusing, muddled mess

I'm confused why this has gotten such great reviews. It's nowhere near as good as the Thursday Murder Club series. And the writing is sometimes amateurishly laughable, i.e. "even though I just found a skeleton, I'm still hungry". It's too "cozy" and a silly, unmemorable read.

Missing something

An enjoyable listen but definitely not the best in the series. Missing the snap, crackle, and pop of the interactions between Tony and Hawthorne. They were almost non-existent. The story was a little lame too, quite frankly, and I got the impression the author wrote the ending first and then worked backwards. It ended abruptly with kind of a thud. Disappointing, as this is a favorite series of mine.

I wanted to try a Ruth Ware and read that this was one of her best. This is just a tedious and very amateurish effort. I had to quit it's so bad. It's implausible and downright silly. And it's not helped by Imogen Church's often hysterical tone. I am literally dumbfounded why this author is popular.

Repetitive and grim with gratuitous sex thrown in for good measure. I wish I could get the hours of my life I devoted to this listen back. Couldn't wait for it to end. The entire premise of the book is silly.

This is a slow burner but ultimately a tedious soap opera of a read and fairly predictable. Foy is excellent, however. My first and last by this author.

Glenister couldn't save it.

Let me preface this by saying I adore this series. I cannot believe I returned this, but it was painful to listen to. Even the outstanding Robert Glenister couldn't save it. Plus it is so hard to follow in this format because of the chat room exchanges, I just kept getting lost. And, because of the controversy surrounding Rowling's transgender comments and all the press that whole situation received, I inadvertently read spoilers about the book that disclosed the culprit. It was pretty pointless to continue after that.

This is the best book I've read in a long time. and I've already made the movie in my head! even though this was somewhat predictable, especially towards the end of the book, it was still really enjoyable. I thought it was a fresh and original concept and the narrator did a great job. Highly recommend.
