Recurring theme: Main protagonist wants to be a bad guy, but gets distracted into being a good guy. Some moments of immaturity or noob-ish-ness can try one's patience with this character. All supporting characters insert humor into conversations. Story ends on a bit of a cliff hanger. Entirely worth the read.

The writing brings vastly detailed images for one's imagination, yet so few of the characters are likable. The main protagonists are decidedly unlikable - as are the antagonists as well - and their consistent use of profanity is remarkable. The support characters are tolerant for no discernable reasons. Truth be told I found myself yelling at the characters because of the emotionally charged behavior involved.
This is a "book 2" and while the "book 1" is no different, I was compelled to read this one because the first ended on such an intense cliff hanger.

I’m not sure where the entertainment value is. The first minutes are disturbing enough with the way the husband treats the wife. Then, after the way their friends and neighbors talk to them, it just gets harder and harder to listen to as so many people treat each other badly. If that’s realistic behavior then fine, but I don’t find it entertaining one bit.

The author keeps the story moving pretty well all the way through. The narration is split between the point of view of two protagonists, one male one female. The narration bounces back-and-forth between them, and Mr. Kramer and Ms. Reading do a great job with that. I found it particularly entertaining with so many creative forms of expletives.
It seems like a very long story, but we learned what we had to learn, and it ended in a very good place for the next book to begin with. I’m hoping “the red claw” is as good to read/listen as this book is.

The narrator truly makes the story come alive. Non-stop action. If this was a movie it would be rated R for the violence and gore. Excellent first book in a series.

Complete and utter waste of time. Not sure what Audible was thinking. None of the characters are likable or relatable. The premise is nonsensical. The protagonist, if that’s what they can be called, is a clueless idiot.
The primary and secondary antagonists are so unintelligent that it’s clear the premise is impossible to be believed.
There is no universe where both consumers and producers of products are completely without wit or reason. It’s not so much a piece of fiction as an offense to one’s sensibilities. If I was Laura Dern or Gwyneth Paltrow, I’d call my lawyer.

Normally, I don’t start a series in the middle. But, I like Will Wight and I like Travis Baldree, so I took a chance.

I’m not sure how to categorize the work. Perhaps, fantasy fiction based on Asian-style martial mythologies with rankings based on elemental thaumaturgy. It’s very reminiscent of subtitled kung-fu style martial-arts movies’ scenarios.

I liked it but it took a chapter or two to get up to speed. There are a lot of unique characters to keep track of. By mid book I was wrapped up in the whole thing. I am seriously considering starting the series with book one.

Two books in one, and R. C. Bray does another fine job

I like R. C. Bray. I like how he reads military Sci-Fi stories. He has a great range and his voice modulates very well to differentiate the characters. As for the book(s): part 1 was well paced, but unless the authors’ intent was to convey the “WTF are we even doing here?” vibe from all the characters, it really seemed random. I like the concept of the legionnaires, etc., but the story went off the rails a few times and the ending was not very satisfying to me at all. Part 2 lent itself a more humorous bent. The story was cogent and interesting. We were given many unique and humorous personalities. And to be fair, I didn’t like how this one ended either, but it certainly left me wanting to know much more about almost all of the characters.

I can’t recommend this book. Without giving away any spoilers, I like how it started, but it ended abruptly; think M. Night Shyamalan’s “what a twist”.
Just saying that I was distracted for most of the story trying very hard to understand to what I was listening.

interesting character development. Clearly the author knows the life. I was convinced by the verisimilitude. However, as the protagonist reached the main crisis, with a strong climax pending fruition, the bottom drops out and the story quits hard. No denouement, no satisfaction. I regret listening to the entire thing. I do not recommend.
