Historia
This brilliantly readable work of history tells the bizarre story of the Ottoman Empire as seen through the lives of its extravagant and tyrannical sultans. With their absolute power, their love of pomp, and their overwhelming venality and corruption, rarely has a great empire been ruled by such grotesque and awesome figures. For 400 years, they fought wars, terrorized their subjects, made Turkey into a great empire, and then allowed her to decline into ostentatious and impotent decay.

Solid history well written and Frederick Davidson

Listened halfway through before purchasing a hardcopy to follow along. Smooth writing about one of the less known modern empire. Appreciate author's notes at end detailing sources.

Fantastic combination of voice and plot
Revisado: 12-01-22
Frederick Davidson is the greatest of the audiobook narrators, in my opinion.
Cornwell provides a cool tale of adventure, as typical in the Sharpe series, of yet another escaped in the Iberian Peninsula struggle against the Napoleonic Empire.

Historia
Hudson Taylor is one of the most remarkable of Christianity's heroes. A gawky, determined Yorkshire boy of commonplace origins, mediocre education, and uncertain health, Hudson Taylor lived in the assurance that under God's direction he would someday evangelize China's 400 million souls. Today he is remembered both as the founder of the world-famous China Inland Mission and one of history's great men of faith.

Historia
William Wilberforce is chiefly remembered as the reformer who campaigned for the abolition of the slave trade in England. He was at the heart of British politics for over 40 years during the inflammatory times of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. He lived just long enough to see the passage of the Act to emancipate all slaves in British territories.

"For many days we had been tempest-tossed...the raging storm increased in fury until on the seventh day all hope was lost." So begins this delightful adventure story. The Robinson family, a Swiss pastor, his wife, and four sons, will emerge alive from this terrible storm, bringing to land two dogs and a shipload of livestock: hens, pigeons, and geese.

Whimsical take narrated by Frederick Davidson
Revisado: 10-07-22
Frederick Davidson is easily my favorite narrator who read a number of fantastic books. Swiss Family Robinson is a bit too whimsical for my tastes, yet it is always good to listen to Frederick Davidson.

Historia
In this ground-breaking work, Norman Cantor explains how our current notion of the Middle Ages—with its vivid images of wars, tournaments, plagues, saints and kings, knights and ladies—was born in the 20th century. The medieval world was not simply excavated through systematic research. It had to be conceptually created: it had to be invented, and this is the story of that invention.

Historia
Winston Churchill is perhaps the most important political figure of the 20th century. His great oratory and leadership during the Second World War were only part of his huge breadth of experience and achievement. Studying his life is a fascinating way to imbibe the history of his era and gain insight into key events that have shaped our time.

Historia
Darwin's theory of evolution is accepted by most educated Americans as simple fact. This easy acceptance, however, hides from us the many ways in which evolution - as an idea - shapes our thinking about a great many things. What if this idea is wrong? What if "evolution" is just a word that covers up scientific ignorance of how the wonders of the living world could have been created? Berkeley law professor Phillip Johnson looks at the evidence for Darwinistic evolution the way a lawyer would - with a cold dispassionate eye for logic and proof.
