Not gonna lie, I could listen to Brian Nishii read a phone book. He has a fantastic voice with the perfect hint of an accent for the story. He does voices well without doing weird falsetto for female voices.
I enjoyed the main character and his sweet gentle soul that's been dropped into a new world of shinobi and samurai; caste systems and rural machinery. Can't wait to hear Novice and whatever comes next. My only real complaint was that I wanted another solid few hours of story here. I did feel like it ended a bit prematurely but it's a series so I suppose that's necessary.
Will absolutely keep going with this series, I wish I could visit Nobu-Teng! Or.... Live there forever. Ha!

Was really enjoying this - until Amazon yanked it

I was partway through listening to this as part of my audible membership - until suddenly it kicked me out, locked the title, and now shows I must purchase it to continue listening to it. Talk about a bait and switch! Will absolutely not pay any money for a book I was allowed to begin as free (NOT a sample, as part of audible unlimited) then taken away and reentered as paid. Gross. Ready to leave audible for a MOM-AMAZON company.

Enjoyable! It was hard to stop listening as I always wanted to know what happens next. It was a little bit heavy in some areas so may trigger some people but overall enjoyable if you're looking for a very different twist on a classic. Definitely keeping this one around as I'd give it another listen down the road. Not your traditional Alice! AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
