Historia
One minute, silly Heather Babcock had been babbling on at her movie idol, the glamorous Marina Gregg. The next, Heather suffered a massive seizure, poisoned by a deadly cocktail. It seems likely that the cocktail was intended for the beautiful actress. But while the police fumble to find clues, Miss Marple begins to ask her own questions, because as she knows...even the most peaceful village can hide dark secrets.

Unbearable volume fluctuations
Revisado: 05-28-24
This narrator has a tendency (in this book and others) to add interest to the story by fluctuating between soft-spoken voices and high-volume voices that seem to require screaming every time that character speaks. It’s unbearable to listen, particularly on speakers.

One of my favorite stories & outstanding narration
Revisado: 11-01-16
If you could sum up The Scarlet Pimpernel in three words, what would they be?
Historic romantic adventure
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Scarlet Pimpernel - he offers such an amazing blend of audacious heroism and romantic vulnerability.
What does Michael Page bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This narration is one of the best I've ever listened to. He is able to bring the characters fully to life, while somehow keeping from overdoing the nuances of each personality. Wonderful.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Trite as it sounds, I didn't want the story to end.
Any additional comments?
I will look for other stories narrated by Michael Page!

George MacDonald Fraser, author of the Flashman novels, praises this hearty saga as "one of the great unrecognized novels of the 20th century." Doctor Peter Blood's quiet life is shattered when he is convicted of treason for helping a wounded nobleman in the 1685 rebellion against King James II.

Loved this story all the more for the narration
Revisado: 07-28-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Captain Blood to be better than the print version?
I haven't read this story since I was very young, but decided to listen to the Audible version based on a recommendation of another author (ok, it was Agatha Christie mentioning this book as one of her favorites). I love seafaring stories as a rule, and daring, unrequited (not gruesome) pirate tales are true favorites. This story was all I wished for. But the narration was the best part...truly amazing. The characterization was calm and natural (not wildly over-stated), and just wonderfully done. It was difficult to conclude listening to this book. I wanted it to go on and on.
What did you like best about this story?
The descriptions of the action at sea...and the well-developed characters were like old friends I'd just re-encountered.
Have you listened to any of Robert Whitfield’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not before, but I plan to find and listen to all he's performed.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The main character's misery at being prevented from turning away from piracy and his will to protect others.
Any additional comments?
I have literally hundreds of Audible books. This was my very favorite reading.

Can't listen to this narrator
Revisado: 07-27-16
What did you like best about Some Like it Wicked? What did you like least?
I couldn't listen to the book. The narrator was horrid. If you want to listen to someone with a voice like a whining 11-year-old, this is the book for you. The story may have been great--I generally find Teresa Medeiros writes really fun, intelligent romance stories...with great dialogue...reminiscent of a Nick and Nora from the old Thin Man series. Unfortunately, try as I might, I could only get through about ten minutes of narration for Some Like It Wicked.
What was most disappointing about Teresa Medeiros’s story?
The narration was unbearably high-pitched and whining.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Charlotte Parry?
Barbara Rosenblat

Can't believe this is Amanda Quick
Revisado: 06-25-15
What would have made Otherwise Engaged better?
From the opening scene, this story overflows with blood, gore and gruesomeness. There is very little to indicate Amanda Quick's signature wit, charm, historic nuance or, for that matter, romance. The hero and heroine are unkind to each other. The protagonist is particularly snippy (not sassy, as are other heroines in Amanda Quick stories). The phrasing of dialog and many other small references do not stay in character with the time period and many inconsistencies pervade the plot line. So disappointing. The narrator does her best, but generally ends up giving the women the voices of whiny, selfish, insipid thirteen-year-olds. I could barely listen to this, but persevered...hoping it would get better. It doesn't.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Perhaps an older Amanda Quick story.
What didn’t you like about Louise Jane Underwood’s performance?
Her voice doesn't fit with Amanda Quick's writing -- though in the case of this story, perhaps it does. She makes the characters sound like snarky, peevish twits. I never liked any of the characters (primarily because the storyline didn't encourage empathy, bust also) because they were given the voices of nasal, snotty, angry, arrogant jerks.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No. The characters were completely devoid of any of the special admirable feistiness and humor Amanda Quick usually splashes liberally throughout. The plot was unlike any gentle, good natured romance lightly touched with a bit of spice. The romantic scenes were lifeless. All the story' energy is poured into multiple bloody murders. The heroine has no redeeming traits or independent industriousness.
Any additional comments?
Listening "readers" looking for the happy romp of a usual Amanda Quick romance -- will likely be disappointed.
