Historia
Wolcott Balestier, the representative of an American book publisher, arrived in London on a singular mission—to contract with English authors for their latest works. When Balestier disappears on the streets of London one day, his great friend - Rudyard Kipling—bursts into Enola's office looking for help in finding him. Brash and unwilling to hire a young woman, instead he turns to Sherlock Holmes. Convinced that evil has befallen Balestier, at the hands of rival American publishers who pirate the works of English authors, he sets the elder Holmes on the trail.

Guardas, romance, mayhem
Revisado: 12-13-23
I like the simplicity of it and, yet the Linking of the interviews with the various characters. You have to keep your mind, busy, paying attention to keep in the number of characters in the plot in your mind, but that’s what makes it all work together together to the end result of the murder discovery. if you had less characters, you would be able to figure it out right away. And the main characters are fun.

The Thief of Spirits
Revisado: 06-09-23
Well scripted, narrated, kept the reader engaged. What was rewarding was watching the heroine keep purpose and hopeful for a future, when, seemingly she had been stripped of everything. The negative would have been the earlier blank of Morgan’s life, believing the reader that she had no family to care for her, when, in fact, she had two principles that loved her very much!

Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Parallel Narrative
Revisado: 01-26-23
Great story line, which intercepts with another. Reader must listen (or read) carefully, as many name associations cross reference with the shadowed story line. Writer doggedly keeps you invested, but, quite lengthy getting there. And, once concluded, too much resolution discussion. Engaging, great writing, but a little convoluted.

Historia
In 1908, Hazel Drew was found floating in a pond in Sand Lake, New York, beaten to death. The unsolved murder inspired rumors, speculation, ghost stories, and, almost a century later, the phenomenon of Twin Peaks. Who killed Hazel Drew? Like Laura Palmer, she was a paradox of personalities - a young, beautiful puzzle with secrets. Perhaps the even trickier question is, Who was Hazel Drew? The investigation that followed her brutal murder was fraught with red herrings, wild-goose chases, and unreliable witnesses.

Dry book

This was the driest book and presentation and detail that I have ever listen to. If a person were to detail facts, you could make it a little more interesting and not have a speaker who never changes his speech tone.

Historia
Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited. Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

Flight in mystery
Revisado: 07-28-22
I love the written path of Jacqueline Winspear. She so enticingly describes that pre-WWII period and wartime era. It is easy to picture that period of time, the simplicity of life style, the sometimes primitive conditions. At the same time, she captures the spirit, substance, and the motivational drive of the people. She wittingly lays out the foundation of the mystery behind the events. The contingencies of the female pilots were addressed showcasing their personalities, while delivering mystery and intrigue.
I love trying to unweave the plot as she professionally, yet cordially interrogates the people, who may unwittingly know something. It’s like ‘eating a piece of homemade apple pie.’
