Very Long
Revisado: 09-02-24
The story was just ok, it seemed to go on and on and on. Pretty tedious. I think it could’ve been cut by about a third.

Historia
Archaeologist Verity Grey has been drawn to the dark legends of the Scottish Borderlands in search of the truth buried in a rocky field by the sea. Her eccentric boss has spent his whole life searching for the resting place of the lost Ninth Roman Legion and is convinced he's finally found it - not because of any scientific evidence, but because a local boy has "seen" a Roman soldier walking in the fields, a ghostly sentinel who guards the bodies of his long-dead comrades.

Revisado: 07-15-24
I love Susanna Kearsley’s books. Some mystery, lots of history, just a bit of romance, and a dash of supernatural. So very satisfying I just want to keep listening. The reader did a wonderful job with accents. I will be hearing a Scottish accent for weeks.

Historia
As a storyteller, Maureen Nash can't help but see the narrative cues woven through her life. Like the series of letters addressed to her late husband from a stranger—the proprietor of The Moon Shell, a shop on Ocracoke Island, off the coast of North Carolina. The store is famous with shell collectors, but it's the cryptic letters from Allen Withrow, the shop's owner, that convince Maureen to travel to the small coastal town in the middle of hurricane season. At the very least, she expects she'll get a good story out of the experience, never anticipating it could end up a murder mystery.

Great Characters, Narrator Put Me to Sleep
Revisado: 07-02-24
I enjoy all of Molly MacRae’s series, I am really looking forward to hanging out with the ones in this new one. I have to say, though, I found the narrator’s pacing particularly slow and it really annoyed me.

Overall, this was very enjoyable. The narrator is very good. I look forward to spending more time with the characters, and I enjoyed not being sure “whodunnit” and twists and turns.

I didn’t want to get to the end of such a good book. And waiting for the next take in the saga. Sure hoping there will be a next one, it seems likely. Thanking Jim Butcher for so many hours of storytelling and excellent characters.
I loved the Harry Dresden series. I think I’m enjoying this one even more because of the many storylines.

Historia
Taking place three years after The Bean Trees, Taylor is now dating a musician named Jax and has officially adopted Turtle. But when a lawyer for the Cherokee Nation begins to investigate the adoption, their new life together begins to crumble. Depicting the clash between fierce family love and tribal law, poverty and means, abandonment and belonging, Pigs in Heaven is a morally wrenching, gently humorous work of fiction that speaks equally to the head and to the heart.

Somehow, I had never read a Barbara Kingsolver book. Being one who likes to start at the beginning, I listened to The Bean Trees last week. I was so enchanted, I had to skip the line and read this sequel. So delighted with the people, the stories, and the beautiful writing.
