Narrator ruined the book
Revisado: 04-08-25
As a Mindy Obenhaus fan, I was thrilled to discover an audio version of her latest book! However, huge disappointment was in store! The voices — especially the attempts at male voices and children’s — were so unrealistic they were unpalatable! The accent was much more Southern than Texan. I am Texan so I do know the difference!). Mindy’s story did not disappoint. It was a sweet story of healing and hope. And I look forward to reading the sisters’ stories!

Almost quit listening
Revisado: 02-06-25
If this had been the first Amy Clipston book I had read, I would never pick up another. In the past I have enjoyed both her contemporary works as well as the Amish and usually applaud her character development. These characters were both very unlikable and very irritating. I almost quit listening several times because they were so opinionated, arrogant and interferring! Neither got clue until the last hour of the book! Boring story line. This is so unlike previous books by this author! I also agree with another reviewer …. Though clean (thank you). This is NOT a Christian book as there was hint of faith or the need for it.

Revisado: 10-30-24
Characters are engaging and Beth’s career interesting but I felt cheated! My expectation was a love story between Bess and Gio. It REALLY is the story of a recovering alcoholic and her PAST mistakes. Too much time spent on Gio’s distrust of his mother and his memories and Bess’ financial situation. At least 15 chapters too long!! The story I was interested in happened BETWEEN chapters 30 and 31 (the last 2 chapters)! Bess & Gio supposedly were good friends but there was little evidence of “good” friends of 40 year olds. Rather their interpretations interactions were more like teenagers. Disappointing though I probably will try one more Helen Rolf’s books!

My best friend has held a grudge against his half-sister, Lauren, forever. It’s unjustified and ridiculous, but I have to take his side. Also ridiculous? How bad I have it for her. My Lauren radar goes off the second she steps in the building. Did I mention we work together and her dad’s the boss? Yeah, she’s so off-limits I might as well start running now and never come back. Except, her family is like family to me. So, I’ll do whatever it takes to stick around, even if she hates my guts.

Immature charcters
Revisado: 11-06-23
Overly dramatic family and immature characters who rather lie than face the complexities if work and family. I skipped a lot of the chapters due to impatience. It was supposed to be cute but totally missed.

Disappointing … a bit boring
Revisado: 07-12-23
Surprised this was written by Helen Rolfe.Unlike previous books where kindness and giving were themes, these two main characters were all introspective. The grief took up for too much of the book and the real “action” took place in the epilogue. It was easy to put down and hard to finish.

Kept waiting for it to be uplifting
Revisado: 07-03-23
I have enjoyed most of Beth Morgan’s books. This one, while having some of the same positive components as previous books, was not my favorite. While both Ruth and Maggie made a lot of growth and positive changes it was NOT an uplifting book. Maggie’s self-focus might have been understandable as she is 14, but Ruth’s self- pity got old very quickly. Was the stalker added as a page filler or thrill value? Not sure it was needed. I admit I like romance and this was very minimal in this book. I listened for 10 hours (@1.2x) and the author could only give me 45 seconds of conversation of the book? Mostly disappointing.

Historia
A Barefoot Summer is a beautiful, touching story about coming home, the importance of family, and the special place that first loves hold in our hearts. Sometimes you find perfect where you least expect it. Libby Potter has just lost the perfect job, the perfect apartment and the perfect boyfriend. Moving back to the home town that she couldn’t wait to escape when she was younger was definitely not on her to-do list. Especially as it means running into the man whose heart she broke when she left.

Skip this one
Revisado: 10-23-22
If this was the first Jenny Hale book I read, it would have been the last. Boring because most of the book took place in the woman’s mind. It was the same “I am better than this place” over and over ad nauseam. Only the last couple of chapters showed any change. The real story took place between the last chapter and the epilogue. I skimmed it because I wanted it over with!

Sweet, clean romance
Revisado: 10-11-22
I’ve enjoyed this author in the past and this book was no exception. It’s a light, predictable story and even though I am not wild about billionaire stories This one kept my attention. The narrator;however, was not a good choice … unless you like breathy and fake, screechy or chipmunk!

Kate’s creed: Thou shalt embrace singledom and be unbelievably, inconceivably happy. Yeah, right. Kate Meadows, a successful San Francisco artist, is this close to giving up on finding a nice, solid man with whom to spend her life. So when not one, but two eligible bachelors enter her orbit in rapid succession, it seems too good to be true. And it may be.

Great book; narrator doesn’t fit
Revisado: 03-21-22
I read this long ago and was happy to read again. It is a great book with a good moral. The author is great at contemporary romance but the narrator doesn’t match. She might be great on the historical books (I don’t like those) but her accent and inflections don’t fit the characters or place of this story. I am sad this author stopped writing contemporary romance as she is so good at that. Unfortunately, she writes medieval romances and I loathe that time period.
