Historia
Why have we lost our ability to focus? What are the causes? And, most importantly, how do we get it back? For Stolen Focus, internationally best-selling author Johann Hari went on a three-year journey to uncover the reasons why our teenagers now focus on one task for only 65 seconds, and why office workers on average manage only three minutes. He interviewed the leading experts in the world on attention and learned that everything we think about this subject is wrong.

Insightful, but...
Revisado: 03-19-25
Lots of great insights into the effects of social media and also how we are currently not letting our kids play freely and the detrimental effects of current schooling systems. But there are parts of this book that I either don't agree with or is too simplistically explained. Also miss more explanation of the "whys", though I appreciate the author's honesty in the fact that this is not easy to fix.

Fantastic insights and incredible story
Revisado: 11-30-24
This book is almost as great as Liftoff, though I think the first book is even more incredible. Reentry tells the important story of reusability and disruption of an entire global industry. I can't wait to read the next book, telling the success story of Starship.

Historia
Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

Spot on!
Revisado: 08-24-24
Most of what is wrong with the current society is excellently summarized in this book. And how it all slowly impacts and stifles our freedom of thought and speech is scary. Prof. Gad Saad really pinpointed many of the thoughts I've had over a decade, but where I had been lost in connecting the dots, he helped. This book have teached me to not surpress my thinking but to express it confidently. Thank you.

Imagine the universe as a forest, patrolled by numberless and nameless predators. In this forest, stealth is survival – any civilisation that reveals its location is prey. Earth has. Now the predators are coming. Crossing light years, the Trisolarians will reach Earth in four centuries' time. But the sophons, their extra-dimensional agents and saboteurs, are already here. Only the individual human mind remains immune to their influence.

Too fragmented storyline
Revisado: 06-14-24
At times its hard to follow the storyline. The overall theme is exciting but with the writing style combined with a narrator that is a bit monotone, the experience is mediocre. Worth a read, but I don't think I'll reread it.

Refreshing but also a bit stale
Revisado: 12-19-23
Very exciting to read non-western sci-fi, and Cixin certainly knows his genre. However, the plot is sometimes too dense and at other times too thin. E.g. I found the motivation and rational behind the actions taken weakly grounded in the story, without giving away spoilers. Also the political and ideological history of China penetrates the storyline in the most unexpected places.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Man of the 21st Century...
Revisado: 10-23-23
Listening to the life story of Elon Musk fills me with tremendous awe and respect for what he has been able to acheive, despite so much friction and general resentment towards change and new thinking. He is without doubt a strong candidate, if not the sole candidate, to become the most influential individual of the 21st century to bring positive impact on the human race and the future of humanity. Also, the author, Walter Isaacson, is a master of biographies, and has written this book in a very engaging way. Lastly the narrator, who is kind of overshadowed by these two giants, also makes a great performance. All in all, one of my best books this year (however, if you are a space-buff, you may want to read Liftoff, as that book provides more detailed insights into spacex)

Superfluous?
Revisado: 08-28-23
First let say that I simply loved "ready player one", both the story and performance of Wil Wheaton. When I heard about a sequel, my expectations went through the roof, and maybe that was the reason my experience with this one plummeted to the ground.
It seems the author have shifted many of his views since the writing of the first book, or at least waited until now to express them properly. It may also be a deliberate attempt by the author, or possibly the publisher, to reach a new audience.
This book is overly feministic, on the brink of radical feminism. This, combined with multiple doses of wokeism, made it pretentious and fallacious. The character Aech is almost unrecognizable in this book.
I'm sorry to say that I think this is a completely unnecessary sequel to an almost perfectly created initial storyline. I can fully understand you want to read it, if you enjoyed the first book, but my advise is to simply let "ready player one" be a singular story without any continuation.
