Historia
When 17 year old Liv Larson and her brother are sent to separate foster homes, she becomes content with her isolation and dedicates her every breath to getting him back. After months of solitude and anti-social behavior, Liv's best friend Riley drags her to a Rooftop Party to view Icarus (the once in a lifetime solar flare) where Liv finds herself inexplicably drawn to Zander James, the mysterious boy with the crooked smile.

Not just another apocalypse story.

Would you listen to Killshot again? Why?
Yes I would. There are a lot of very memorable characters that I found myself growing attached to. I'll probably relisten to it again once the next book of the series comes out.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Killshot?
There were quite a few. Aria Michaels paints quite a few memorable set pieces for the characters to interact in. I don't want to get into details because of spoilers, but the feeling of claustrophobia in the first act followed by the almost Mad Max sense of survival moving into the second was fantastic.
What does Rhiannon Angell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
A lot of Rhiannon's voices felt very spot on. I find a lot of female narrators kinda lacking when they jump to male voices but she had a very comfortable groove and sounded very believable as Zander, Jake, and others.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! Putting the inter-character drama aside, there was a very clear goal that needed to be achieved with each section of the book - a central plot point that drove the characters forward. There was never a resting point for the characters or for the readers. With the constantly changing motivations for our group of heroes and heroines moving the story along, there never seemed to be a good stopping point!
Any additional comments?
I will point out that there is a lot of description about the attractiveness of a certain gentleman in the story. It happens fairly often. This however does not distract from the story too much. If you're not into hearing about the intricacies of how stunningly handsome someone is, I recommend just getting yourself through it somehow. The story is definitely worth the brief awkwardness in those moments.

Funny and real.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian to be better than the print version?
I can't exactly say, having never read the print version. There seemed to be some elements that were changed for the audiobook format and some things that were very clearly tailored to reading the actual book.
What other book might you compare The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian to and why?
I don't think I've read a semi-autobiographical novel that I can compare to similarly. There's a lot of self-deprecating humor in it that reminds me of some stand-up comedians I enjoy, like John Mulaney.
What does Sherman Alexie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His narration has a very rhythmic, melodic flow to it. It made it easier to hear the speech differences between the Native American characters compared to everyone else. Narration also helped sell a lot of the dramatic moments and comedic punchlines so much better than if I were to be reading the text on a page.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were a few moments that made me laugh. Quite a few made me think. Being of an "ethnic" persuasion myself I saw a lot of parallels to growing up in a certain world with a completely different culture than elsewhere, and having to reconcile those differences. There were also aspects that I never experienced at all that made me reevaluate my worldview.
Any additional comments?
This is a definite must-listen. Or a must-read. Either or.

Historia
The American Dream is dead. It is a nation desperate for change, which might explain how a man like Lester Ginn - huckster, hypnotist, swordsman, self-proclaimed visionary - could rally support for his own grandiose notion of utopia...The Pyramid. From the hardscrabble streets of Queens, New York to the semi-post-apocalyptic Glass Desert of Nevada, we ride Lester's ever-flapping coattails as he careens through time and space, ultimately lording over the world's largest man-made structure.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! This book has elements of both humor and serious thought, although the humor is carrying the latter.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was a fitting end. I enjoyed it!
What does Douglas Thornton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
In a way, I feel Douglas Thornton makes a lot of the jarring time shifts and perspective changes.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were a few. None that I can delve into without spoiling, but a lot of the character-building and growth moments in particular were satisfying.
Any additional comments?
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. To be quite honest, earlier in my listening/reading I was going to give a lower rating for the story, as I was quite baffled with the breakneck speed at which focus was changed. You get used to it though, and as mentioned above it gets easier to recognize the incongruent storylines converging. All in all it's a very fun story read by a very capable narrator and I definitely recommend it!
