Horrible Performance
Revisado: 03-15-24
The reader's performance unfortunately stood out more than anything to me, and not in a positive manner. I found it very difficult to clearly hear the words E. A. Poe wrote, due to the method the reader employed throughout the story. His theatric vocalizations had me stopping to find another, better read version of "The Fall of The House of Usher." I will never forget to listen to the "sample" again. The reader needed to drop the dramatic intonations and simply tell the story. Poe's works in themselves are works of art, they need little embellishment to stand out. To actually understand "The Fall of The House of Usher" I definitely recommend you do not waste your money on this book.

Loved it?
Revisado: 02-10-24
I enjoyed the voice actors and felt they did an excellent job with all characters. Getting to know all the main players full[er] backstory really smoothed out the harsher, stronger snarp edges of characteristics/character traits from Ninth House. Incredible world building and round, dynamic characters whose evolution can be seen from book 1 through book 2. A wonderful storyteller; I am now a forever fan of Leigh Bardugo! I can't wait to read the next Galaxy Stern story, looking forward to hearing her discuss her writing plans for the future!

A hidden gem!
Revisado: 08-14-23
I fell in love immediately and was quick to binge the next two in the series. I eagerly await more books from this author and personally have been inspired by him as an aspiring author. His words on how he became an author/writer and his choice of topics really set in me. Thank you, David R. Slayton!

I was excited to listen to this book, initially
Revisado: 05-23-23
I was hoping to get a bit of Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches flavor when I listened to this story... However, no matter how great the story could have been I could not get past the narrator's inability to distinguish characters apart. The only clear distinction was the eldest witch, and that was not enough. Also, I am not sure if this story is meant for teens but the writing felt juvenile (I was under the impression the book was for adults) and unpolished. I'm sad to rate a book so low but I hope it may be used as constructive criticism. Next time, please find a person with a broader vocal range for your story and I feel it will be a huge improvement.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Charlie Ovid, despite a brutal childhood in Mississippi, doesn't have a scar on him. His body heals itself, whether he wants it to or not. Marlowe, a foundling from a railway freight car, shines with a strange bluish light. He can melt or mend flesh. When a jaded female detective is recruited to escort them to safety, all three begin a journey into the nature of difference, and belonging, and the shadowy edges of the monstrous. What follows is a story of wonder and betrayal.

Brilliant
Revisado: 07-28-22
Notable characters, each one a stand out thanks to the magical narration stylings of Ben Onwukwe but also thanks to the author, J.M. Miro who leaves no detail unremarked. Some may find the plot a bit wandering, but I found it a wonderful vacation from reality. I eagerly await the next book by J.M. Miro. I do so hope we learn more of "The Talents."
