Historia
Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first Lo's stay is nothing but pleasant: The cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, and gray skies fall.

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Worm: The First Digital World War tells the story of the Conficker worm, a potentially devastating piece of malware that has baffled experts and infected more than twelve million computers worldwide. When Conficker was unleashed in November 2008, cybersecurity experts did not know what to make of it. Exploiting security flaws in Microsoft Windows, it grew at an astonishingly rapid rate, infecting millions of computers around the world within weeks.

Science fiction that isn’t fiction!
Revisado: 10-06-19
An interesting tale of the behind the scenes war to retain control of the internet. Not to actually control it, but to prevent the harm that could occur if bad actors were able to take control.
Also, indirectly, a good reminder that when as individuals we use our digital devices, we also have some responsibility to do so with some thought for security.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Much more than a simple mystery.
Revisado: 12-09-18
Perhaps beyond the mystery, the puzzles, this book gives you the people - people who were victims, people who cared, in the end not just a case solved but what that meant to the investigators, and more deeply to victims freed from years of fear. A lot to think about. Things to learn. People to admire.

On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Not a sequel...
Revisado: 11-23-17
As well written as "The Martian" but it’s 'own thing'. The book has all the space technology of classic SciFi with a credible plot, asides into economic & political theory plus not a little bit of crazy adventure reminiscent of "The Stainless Steel Rat" series.
And...one more thing...the narration is spot on. A new voice. One to watch.

Every morning Boone Daniels is out with the Dawn Patrol: four men and one woman as single-minded about surfing as he is, or nearly. They have real jobs; Boone works as a P.I. just enough to keep himself in fish tacos and in the water. But Boone is also obsessed with the unsolved case of a young girl named Rain who was abducted while he was with the San Diego police.

Could be made into a good movie!
Revisado: 02-05-17
What did you love best about The Dawn Patrol?
Dialog. Crazy characters. At times almost poetic, at others pure snark. Excellently read.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Boone. Nexus. Although all the characters are interesting.
Which scene was your favorite?
Can't say. One of the meditations on the joy of the ocean and surfing.
Any additional comments?
I'll look for more by the same author & the same narrator.

Historia
After details of American government surveillance were published in 2013, Edward Snowden, formerly a subcontracted IT analyst for the NSA, became the center of an international controversy: Was he a hero, traitor, whistle-blower, spy? Was his theft legitimized by the nature of the information he exposed? When is it necessary for governmental transparency to give way to subterfuge? Edward Jay Epstein brings a lifetime of journalistic and investigative acumen to bear on these and other questions.

There's more to the story than headlines suggest.
Revisado: 01-28-17
Would you consider the audio edition of How America Lost Its Secrets to be better than the print version?
The audio edition is very good. I intend to go back and read the Kindle edition in order to give more "think" time to the complex issues & questions raised in the book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
There is no favorite character...unless it's us. We want security. We want privacy. We want it all. Reality doesn't work that way. We have to become informed & make decisions.
What about Michael Bybee’s performance did you like?
A very calm but definite voice. Emphasis only as needed. Not over dramatized.
If you could give How America Lost Its Secrets a new subtitle, what would it be?
Known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns.
Any additional comments?
An excellent book. I recommend it to anyone who wants to understand privacy/security issues beyond sound bites, and comprehend the implications of Snowden's breach of our security.

Among the best!
Revisado: 09-27-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This novel keeps you guessing & enjoying from the opening to the very end. Just when you think you can guess what will happen next you discover that you didn't see it coming. An excellent listen (or read).
What was one of the most memorable moments of Red Sparrow?
The ending. I won't give it away.
Have you listened to any of Jeremy Bobb’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I will look for his performances in the future. An excellent rendering of the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Too long for one sitting, but you definitely look forward to you next opportunity to "tune in" and continue following the story.

Historia
Over the past two decades, Antony Beevor has established himself as one of the world's premier historians of World War II. His multi-award winning books have included Stalingrad and The Fall of Berlin 1945. Now, in his newest and most ambitious book, he turns his focus to one of the bloodiest and most tragic events of the twentieth century, The Second World War. Thrillingly written and brilliantly researched, Beevor's provocative account is destined to become the definitive work on World War II.

Probably the best book about WWII
Revisado: 07-14-15
If you could sum up The Second World War in three words, what would they be?
Comprehensive. More complex history than you may have thought, more relevant to todays world in which major powers + internal national rivalries muddy the bigger picture. A great book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
How can there be a "favorite character" in a history? I'd say the people of Poland. If you want to know why listen/read the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This is a long book. Much too much for one sitting. In fact good for a re-listen. There's a lot to absorb.
Any additional comments?
If you've read other books about or set in the context of WWII this book will give you background. Some things start making sense...unfortunately.
