Historia
Imagine a world in which Gen Xers, millennials, and boomers interact with young people in ways that leave them feeling inspired, enthusiastic, and ready to contribute—rather than disengaged, outraged, or overwhelmed. That world may be closer than you think. In this book based on cutting edge research, psychologist David Yeager explains how to stop fearing young people’s brains and hormones and start harnessing them.

Anecodotal evidence shoehorned into his world view
Revisado: 08-27-18
This one just didn't do it for me. In part, this is because I just don't think his conclusions apply to me in the slightest, but I might have thought more carefully about them if there had been ANY kind of scientific study. Instead, it seems that something occurred to him at one point, and then he found a way to interpret a handful of other people's struggles through that lens. It's possible that he's got some good points for some people, but there's no way to tell.

Historia
Daemon is firmly in control, using an expanded network of real-world, dispossessed darknet operatives to tear apart civilization and rebuild it anew. Soon civil war breaks out in the American Midwest, in a brutal wave of violence that becomes known as the Corn Rebellion. Former detective Pete Sebeck, now the Daemon's most powerful - though reluctant - operative, must lead a small band of enlightened humans toward a populist movement designed to protect the new world order. But the private armies of global business are preparing to crush the Daemon once and for all.

There's very little here that couldn't really be done within 5 years or so. This and Daemon have given me something to think about!

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Very very slow, poorly explained premise, not much happens
Revisado: 05-20-17
The precarious state humans are in was never reasonably explained in this book. Neither was the sci Fi premise behind it. So in the end it was just a political sorry with flat characters.

Historia
Piloted by a six-year-old girl, the godlike Skalm guards the Districts of TASC. Her family is long dead. Her adopted father is a synthetic copy of an alien, her nanny an artificial mind connected via subspace to every part of the globe, feeding the young girl information, finding prey to satiate her growing thirst. But the young girl is an innocent, a victim, one of millions the war has already claimed.

A very poor ending to an otherwise good series
Revisado: 04-14-17
What did you like best about Fear the Future? What did you like least?
The narration was excellent
What was most disappointing about Stephen Moss’s story?
Spoiler Alert:
This thing about Neil was so frustrating. First of all, what he was sent to prison for isn't something that the conspirators even knew about. So what prompted the conspirators to even start their insurgency was beyond me.
Second, Neil had always had the ability to work with Ayala before and had always spoken his mind before. If she was freaking him out, everything in their history to date suggested they'd have discussed it.
Third, the morality was a little too black and white. Yeah sure the pilots thing was distasteful, but a) the kids were utterly miserable in North Korea, b) they were going to die from the Mobiliei, c) they were the only legitimate option to take on the Mobiliei in the end anyway. And honestly, the underlying Sci-Fi bit in this world where the only edge humans have on the machines is SPEED was crazy, and that's what this whole plot line was predicated on anyway.
Fourth, the AI's wind up being everyone's conscience
Fifth, the deux ex machina at the end
Sixth, all of the world's leaders acted like the jerks they seem to always be, but then as soon as the character with the toughness to bring them to heal gets thrown in prison, they decide to go all kumbaya
Seventh, Mini et. al then don't tell the humans that the fight is going to be much much sooner? Well, there goes their moral high ground, as well as their intellectual superiority. If you have X time, you may come up with plan A. But if you have only half that time, you may have to come up with a completely different plan. (Like say, prioritizing the work with Bergit)
I realize this book must have been a challenge, because the ultimate fight was to be so brief that some form of conflict was needed. I'm not sure how else it could have been handled. But this was unsatisfying.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Kahlen apparently got a lobotomy. Richard suffers her stupidity. Book and series ruined, since it seems that the next book is even worse. I'll just stop now.
