Historia
For fifty years a group of friends have been meeting regularly for reunions on Holy Island, celebrating the school trip where they met, and the friend that they lost to the rising causeway tide five years later. Now, when one of them is found hanged, Vera is called in. Learning that the dead man had recently been fired after misconduct allegations, Vera knows she must discover what the friends are hiding, and whether the events of many years before could have led to murder then, and now . . .

Her best.
Revisado: 09-28-22
Just finished listening, still reeling, almost without words. This is her best yet—the depth, the development of the characters, I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Might be my all time favorite
Revisado: 03-28-22
I’ve been planning to read A Man Called Ove for years but never got to it. I’m so glad I didn’t, because reading would not have done it justice. This audiobook ranks among my favorites, and I listen to a lot of them. The narration is perfect, and brings Ove to life where the voice in my head while reading would not have done it justice. I giggled, I cried, then giggled some more. We’ve all had curmudgeons in our life—what’s not to love about one with a big heart.

Surprisingly excellent!
Revisado: 12-11-21
Truthfully I wasn’t expecting much from this audible original, but it is one of the best suspenseful novels I’ve encountered recently. It was so very engaging I couldn’t stop listening to it, and stayed up much too late finishing it!

Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

Treadmill, walks, cleaning, stationary bike—it all was a pleasant blur I was so immersed in this incredible audio book. Ayn Rand was a visionary. This book is pertinent today, as I suspect it was when written in 1943.

Please tell me it gets better
Revisado: 06-18-18
I’ve got seven more hours to go~~I’m not getting any younger~~please tell me this story gets better. I savored the Charles Lenox mysteries by this author. I understand this is an entire different genre. But this, what is it? Is there any enchantment in this book? Does it ever go anywhere? Help. I’m willing to stick it out if there’s hope.

Revisado: 10-03-17
I savor this series by Charles Finch. I'm always disappointed when one ends~~I want the story to go on forever, and cannot wait to download the next. The historical factoids and tidbits of daily English life Charles Finch cleverly incorporates in his books give me a greater understanding of the period.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

A significant piece of history
Revisado: 12-31-16
The excellent narration by Scott Brick carries the listener through some wordy and tiresome chapters, but overall, what a great listening experience. I have a deeper appreciation now for Hamilton, but also for those days of our country's early history. And Eliza? A strong woman in her day.
