More blood and guts than I generally prefer, but this series usually has more of that than the Mercy Thompson stories. Good plot line with lots of historical tie downs. Anna grows stronger and Charles seems to doubt himself more. Graham's reading is lively and easy to follow.

Historia
After making an unexpected connection with God via his cell phone, one man embarks on an unlikely spiritual quest in this smart, savvy, rambunctious debut from author Rick Springfield. After serendipitously stealing a mysterious self-help book called Magnificent Vibration: Discover Your True Purpose from a bookstore, Bobby calls the 1-800 number scrawled inside the front cover, only to discover that he has a direct line to God - and that God likes to mess with him.

A good idea, but
Revisado: 01-14-23
The underlying premise is an interesting, if irreverent, idea. The goal of saving the world from utter extinction is unquestionably worthwhile. The sex obsessed protagonist, however, was very hard to tolerate. I feel no desire to read anything else from this author.

Historia
Join Clara Parkes on a cross-country adventure and meet a cast of characters that includes the shepherds, dyers, and countless workers without whom our knitting needles would be empty, our mills idle, and our feet woefully cold. Travel the country with her as she meets a flock of Saxon Merino sheep in upstate New York, tours a scouring plant in Texas, visits a steamy Maine dyehouse, helps sort freshly shorn wool on a working farm, and learns how wool fleece is measured, baled, shipped, and turned into skeins.

No greased sheep race
Revisado: 11-28-22
Clara Parkes, with her self-imagined "Master's in Yarn Making" program, visits a wool farm, buys a commercial bale of fleece, and follows through the entire process from caring for and shearing the sheep to scouring, carding, spinning, plying, skeining, and dyeing that wool. All this takes place in the dwindling (and perhaps dying--no "e" in that) US wool industry.
A sympathetic voice with a personal interest in the subject, people, and situation, she spins a tremendous tale here in her own words, one of hope as well as tragedy. Well worth listening, even if you aren't a hand spinner or knitter. Fascinating too, if you are.

In John Scalzi's re-imagining of H. Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

Better than the Original
Revisado: 10-30-20
I admit, when I first heard of this retelling of H. Beam Piper's book, Little Fuzzy, I had serious doubts. I was wrong. John Scalzi has renewed the importance of the original by multiplying it's impact at least an order of magnitude. The original message is still relevant and alive, but the effectiveness of the narrative is redrawn in contemporary terms.

Historia
From the comedic mind of New York Times best-seller Gail Carriger comes the much requested prequel short story to Soulless. Alexia Tarabotti attends what appears to be a very dull London party, until the new werewolf Alpha turns up, is unconscionably rude to her, and sits on a hedgehog. Don't miss this charming novelette featuring the first encounter between the Parasolverse's most popular power couple, preternatural Alexia and supernatural Lord Conall Maccon.

A gem, not untarnished
Revisado: 03-03-20
Fun to finally witness an event long heralded and obliquely referenced yet never fully revealed. I nonetheless felt that a little more detail and background would have been valuable, even for those of us who have read all the previously published books.

Jolly good work
Revisado: 02-23-20
T E Kinsey has captured the spirit of Conan Doyle and combined it with the wit of Dorothy Sayers in Lady Emily Hardcastle and her maid, Flo Armstrong. Flo's narrative in the manner of Dr. Watson has humor and insight as she brings this complex double murder to a conclusion. I look forward to the next book in the series. Elizabeth Knowelden does a fine job rendering the characters and style in her performance.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

Captivating
Revisado: 11-07-19
While I enjoy shapeshifters better than most other urban fantasy, the description on this one caught my eye. Different, no heavy romance and sounded humorous. Well, it is funny at times, but also deadly serious. Caught up in the mystery, I kept on until the serious suspense at the end. Not only did I enjoy it, I look forward to the next book in the series. The audio narration was excellent, bringing the characters to life as it should.

Heartwarming Humor
Revisado: 09-18-19
What's funny about the angel of death? Listen to this to find out. In the end though, it isn't the clever wit that makes this skit so good. It's the truthfulness, the warmth, and the sincerity. Oh, and no politicians were harmed in the making of this production.
