Historia
When New York Times columnist Paula Span found out she was going to become a grandmother, she went in search of the perfect grandparenting guide but came up short. Where was Dr. Spock for the silver-haired set? In The Bubbe Diaries, Span picks up where Spock left off. She passes along the latest research on sleep, safety, and bonding; explores why mother-in-laws can have tension with daughter-in-laws; and shows how Boomers are finding their own way through grandparenting.

The best! Everyone should listen.
Revisado: 04-29-21
This is such a special series of stories. Paula Span is the perfect guide to grandparenting — she’s a beautiful storyteller and she never presumes to know it all, although after listening to her diaries, you’ll trust her judgment as least as well as your own. There are so many memorable anecdotes from the front lines, about: grandparent-parent diplomacy, the moment a grandchild bonds with you, what you say when a grandchild asks you if you’re going to die, how Boomers have changed grandparenting (and how they’ve tried but failed to change it). It’s all wise, very witty and brimming with love. I laughed many times and also needed some tissues along the way. Span’s voice is very inviting. I’d describe it as real—no pretense, no hyperbole. She lets her stories speak for themselves. Any grandparent will absolutely love The Bubbe Diaries. But I also feel certain that parents —as the middle-persons between grandparents and their grandchildren—will love it. They’ll recognize themselves, their kids and their parents in many of the stories. And who knows? Maybe they, too, will learn valuable wisdom from Bubbe.

Historia
We’ve been celebrating Earth Day for 50 years, but even the most ardent activists of today would have a hard time picturing the intensity and excitement the first Earth Day in 1970 brought. Before then, no one used the phrase “environmental movement”. But that first Earth Day sparked an unprecedented conversation about pollution, wilderness protection, sprawl, and more. Join Adam Rome, professor of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Buffalo, as he uncovers the motivation for, and the lasting impact of, a national day devoted to environmental awareness.

Fascinating and very insightful environmental history
Revisado: 05-08-20
These lectures unfold like gripping and very human stories that, taken together, convey a stunning history lesson about the environmental movement. Anyone interested in the health of the planet and our democracy will be inspired by this re-examination of the first Earth Day, a triumph of grass-roots organizing that led to previously unimaginable environmental progress.

As India starts to prosper, the residents of Annawadi are electric with hope. Abdul, an enterprising teenager, sees “a fortune beyond counting” in the recyclable garbage that richer people throw away.

A masterpiece of a book and an exquisite reading
Revisado: 03-12-12
What made the experience of listening to Behind the Beautiful Forevers the most enjoyable?
The transporting sense that you are there, in Annawadi, seeing the characters and their stories unfold -- thanks to the absolutely stunning research, magnificent writing and the gentle but commanding voice of the reader.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The opportunity to understand life at its most desperate through the eyes of the people living it, and to discover their humanity, intelligence, drive and even the wit (in some cases, particularly the wit) that carry them through the awful trials of the undercity.
Any additional comments?
This was my first Audible book. I hadn't listened to a book on tape or on CD--ever. I bought this one because I had purchased the hardback book, and had read about a third of it and couldn't bear to stop. I had a 4-hour drive coming up and it occurred to me that I could continue
