Historia
When sworn protectors of Earth, the Justice Platoon, are all horribly killed, their former arch-enemies come crawling out of the woodwork. Outnumbered, outgunned, and out of options, the US government has no choice but to activate the Sidekicks Initiative, dragging the Platoon's middle-aged ex-sidekicks out of retirement. Now these three reluctant, out of shape former child-wonders must work together to stop the rising tide of supervillainy, avenge their former mentors' deaths, and bring the world back from the brink of destruction.

All hail THE Butterfly King! Ummm... I mean Randy😜

I <3 Randy
Revisado: 10-09-22
The math on my ratings doesn't add up. Story - 3 stars - it's good, I liked it, but nothing outstanding. I very much enjoy super hero books with funny bits, but this isn't the best I've read in that genre (Alexander C. Kane and Drew Hayes have that distinction). Performance - 5 stars - Phil Thron does a wonderful job, his voices and pacing are top notch. So mathematically that should average to 4 stars for the Overall category, right? And it would have, except then there was Randy. I freaking love the Butterfly King so much, both how his character was written and how it was voiced. I've re-listened to this book at least 5 times and it's all because of Randy. The number of re-listens pushed the overall score to 5 stars, a rating it deserves for fact it keeps pulling me back in. As another reviewer said, All Hail the Butterfly King!

Historia
For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself. Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Maybe my favorite of the series
Revisado: 10-09-22
Love this series, love this book. I re-read the first 4 of SS&S in anticipation of this book, and while I love them all, Noble Roots is now my favorite. The long length worried me at first, I wondered if it would drag, and the answer is a resounding no. There was lots of story threads going on and the length meant justice could be done to all of them, while still leaving avenues to pursue in the next book. And that's my only negative, now I have to wait!

L&O junkies will love this
Revisado: 03-04-21
I loved finding out that I wasn't the only one who would keep some iteration of Law and Order going in the background any time it was available (and thanks to cable TV, it's nearly always available.) Kevin, Rebecca, and a different special guest each episode take an episode from the Law and Order universe and discuss it as well as the true crime it's sometimes closely and sometimes loosely based on, and I'm here for it. They ask each of their guests their favorite detectives (mine is Briscoe and Green, a pretty popular choice) and their favorite prosecutorial team (McCoy and Ross, fight me). This podcast has freed up my day, I used to plan a visit to the gym around when I could catch a full episode of SVU, now I can go anytime I want and listen to this. Love this pod!

Better to Eye-Read this one
Revisado: 01-22-20
Interesting topic, I learned quite a bit. The narrator sounded like she had a cold in her head, and while it got better, I couldn't even rejoice in her recovery, since it meant she actually DID have a cold in her head, and still went ahead and recorded. Also, the accents she did were borderline horrible, way over the top for nonfiction. I've never cringed so many times listening to a book.

Excellent Strategies for Dealing with Fear
Revisado: 06-16-19
I very much enjoyed this compilation of strategies for overcoming for our fears. Many of the solutions the author presented were ones I was familiar with or had at least heard of (mediation, EFT and visualization were a few mentioned techniques), but I hadn't necessarily associated them with overcoming fear and anxiety and the author did a great job showing how they can do just that. And the narration on this was excellent, authors aren't always good narrators, but Trish Taylor definitely is. It was like listening to a friend share advice they truly believed in or that had worked for them, she was conversational and heartfelt. I plan on getting the Kindle version of this so that I have a print version to reference as well as listening to this again in the future.

Interesting and Informative
Revisado: 04-15-19
Intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet are topics I've been interested in, but haven't explored in depth yet. This book, in a concise, interesting, and informative way, broke down these topics. I appreciated how the author brought up the pros AND the cons with these ways of eatings, as well as providing good information on how to implement. them. The only thing I would have liked was possibly a PDF to go with audiobook, there's a few recipes and eating templates discussed, and those are hard to take full advantage of in an audio format. I also very much appreciated the length of this book, I have listened to other audiobooks on nutrition or different diets, and sometimes the author seems to repeat things over and over, seemingly to increase the length of the book. This author did not do that, and it was very refreshing. The narrator also did a great job, he was engaging, and never sounded dry or forced. I can definitely see myself relistening to this if I decide to put one or both of these ways of eating into practice.

Historia
More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More. Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her.

Revisado: 04-08-19
Alexander C. Kane and Bahni Turpin did it again. They have to be one of the best author/narrator combinations I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I seriously laughed and smiled so much listening to much loved characters from the first book returning (Inspector Well Actually is still in rare form), as well getting to know some new ones (Nevermore is an excellent super villain/best friend). The only thing I wish I'd known before buying was that it has a cliffhangery-ish ending. I don't normally do cliffhangers, but that's on me for downloading before any other reviews were out. So I'll sit here, not so patiently waiting for a third book, hoping that it's in the works. Can't wait to read about you again soon AV!

Historia
Andrea Vernon always thought she would spend her life living in Paris writing thought-provoking historical novels all day and sipping wine on the Seine all night. But the reality is she's drowning in debt, has no prospects, and is forced to move back to Queens, where her parents remind her daily that they are very interested in grandchildren. Then, one morning, she is kidnapped, interviewed, and hired as an administrative assistant by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. Superheroes for hire, using their powers for good. What could possibly go wrong?

Perfect marriage of narration and writing...
Revisado: 08-06-18
This is the first ever audiobook I've listened to three times in a row. After the first listen, it made the extremely short list of books that never get removed from my phone, even with it's limited storage space. I've read/listened to many books that make me laugh out loud in places,(two of my favorite authors are Terry Pratchett and Christopher Moore) and while this book did that, it also kept a smile on my face for nearly the whole listen, I was practically grinning for almost 9 hours straight. I'm eagerly looking forward to the author's next book and am hoping, hoping, hoping that Bahni Turpin will narrate that as well.
