This was a quick listen. I wasn’t expecting to get through it in almost one sitting. Once I realized I was almost through it, I found ways to fit in listening throughout my day. The development of the characters and story is so rich. The author gives us so much so concisely, there is no need for any filler or fluff. Really enjoyed listening to this in December.

Learned something new

I initially listened because I like shoes and my husband is a little bit of a sneakerhead too who has tried to land drops here and there. It was interesting to hear about the deeper world of sneakers. But as a mom, I liked the the sweet understory of her relationship with her son.

Interesting history

Off the bat, I did not enjoy the narration. But getting past that I found this really interesting and changed my own perceptions of home economics. It is definitely a complicated topic but one that is really relevant today. I would recommend it to a history buff and/or a stay at home feminist mom like me trying to understand that staying home doesn’t have to be preceded by “just a” when describing what you do with your day.

Misleading Title

I find the title to be misleading. I was expecting more from the grandmother and what we can learn from her wisdom of a long life, something I wish I had done with my own grandmother. To me, it was more the musings of a twenty-something and not necessarily anything very profound. However some of the topics she touches upon I can relate to like dementia in the elderly and anxiety in every day life. I think the great thing about books is that it shares the experiences of other people who may be different than you and expands your world. So at the very least, that is what I got from this book, a perspective on a life from a different point of view, even though the point of view is not who I expected it to be from.
A note about the performance; I think it is appropriate for the author to be the narrator for such a personal piece of work, however I found she spoke too fast, almost like she was rushing. I felt like I was listening to a conversation that I was not a part of.

I sort of begrudgingly got through the 3 stories. In the end I'm glad I did because they got better as they went along. I liked the Stop Motion story the best. The current setting of the stories are fun but that's about all I would say are reasons to recommend it. Overall it was just ok.

I was able to apply some of the strategies before I was even done with the book. Dana has some great things to think about as you are making decisions about stuff. It is like she is a little cheerleader in your ear, encouraging you and giving you confidence that you can do it!

As a fan from the beginning, it was good to hear her tell her story in her words. It is always great to hear what went into the songs, behind the scenes too.

At first I didn't have the instant grab that some other reviews had, but I liked it and continued on. It is funny and Don reminds me of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. It was an enjoyable listen and stress free.

Hard at times but good

There were parts that made it hard to want to pick up and get through the story sometimes. But stick with it and it is satisfying.
Some reviews said the narrator was hard to understand at times. I had no problem understanding her. I listened with headphones; perhaps that helped.

I fall asleep every time. The narrator has a very calm voice and the story is sweet.
