If you are a fan of Dragon Ball or Inuyasha or any action packed anime with a fantasy element to it, you'll like this book.

In the vein of the genre of novels where the protagonist is born/brought into a new world unlike their original, this one has a unique twist in how the protagonist enters the world. The world itself takes many elements from Ancient China, it seems, in both geography, aesthetics and customs/traditions.

The fighting is very anime, with some characters blocking attacks with just their fingers and then just shrugging it off. It seems that, if the series continues, the main style of fighting the protagonist will be employing is sword fighting, which makes sense given the title of the book, though he doesn't begin using the style until after halfway through the book, and even then he doesn't come out of it as a master of the blade, even noting that he needs to continue cultivating his sword art to higher stages.

The narrator does an excellent job of switching between the characters in the book, from the protagonist, to some boss monsters, to demons, and everything else.

If you like the action genre then you'll like this book.

As a fan of sci-fi, I gotta say I really like this book. Although it's primarily a mystery book, the sci-fi elements it has play out as realistic, enough to help immerse the reader into the story.

The story is very much a murder mystery where the scapegoat has to prove his innocence, but instead of being some action hero macho man stereotype, he's just a college student who, while being a little naive, is trying to wrap his head around what happened. Instead of finding out about the murder and instantly switching into super sleuth mode, he freaks out and tries to come up with ideas to help him stay afloat which, as he acknowledges in the book, are short term at best.

The narrator does a good job with the different voices, switching between naive everyman, smug jock, seedy ship captain, and everything inbetween.

This book takes a realistic look at a situation like this and turns it into an engaging and immersive story... but set in space, of course.

We enter the land imagined by Brock Deskins once again and continue to see, or in this case listen, the adventure of Azerick unfold. Though there may not be as many action packed moments, thrilling events, or dire times of perilous strife, I actually think that works to the books benefit.

It would be easy for each chapter in the book to be one moment of strife to the next, but having moments where the character settles down and unwinds helps to highlight those moments of action, while those moments of action help highlight the importance of those quiet moments with the characters, each event makes the other resonate more.

And this book does give Azerick a bit of closure to his torments from the last book, but not all of his grievances are taken care of, otherwise this series would end here.

The narrator is fine, and I still really enjoy the various voices he's able to come up with. I can tell that he's starting to show more range with each and every character that appears in this book

All in all a good book to listen. Take a moment of your time to listen to this book and see, or listen, where Azerick goes in the next chapter of his life. And what he'll do to protect it.

As an avid video gamer I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book. The author, and maybe the narrator, understands video game mechanics as well which only helps to flesh out the book. The narrator's voice also helps this book as well, we're not listening to the adventures of a beefy, brawny guy who flexes his muscles to save the day, we're listening to the story of a down on his luck 20-something guy who gets caught up in more than he bargained for. Like most books that begin a series there's a twist at the end that will catch a reader's interest, and this one doesn't disappoint. Won't spoil it 'cause I want other people to buy this book and enjoy it. Last thing I can say is that this book is a good way to introduce yourselves to the litRPG subgenre of books.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Sorcerer's Torment to be better than the print version?

Audio books help bring about a level of depth to the story that the print versions can't. I really enjoy the voices that the narrators bring about when narrating a story. I can't truly say one version is better than the other, but I actually do prefer audio books, such as this one, over their print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Azerick, because while he still goes through such torment and agony as he does in the book, he doesn't lower himself to the same level as those who would make him suffer. Yes he'll have his moments of angst, but he won't hurt someone who doesn't deserve it.

Which character – as performed by William Turbett – was your favorite?

I was actually surprised by his performance of Xornan, the psyling that torments Azerick. The author, Brock Deskins, wanted to create a character that was wholly not human, both in the physical sense and in the psychological as well. I think William's performance was a good interpretation of that character.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

If you think you know torment, you're lying to yourself.

Any additional comments?

Buy this book and give it a listen. If you're a fan of fantasy, than this book is up your alley.

What did you love best about The Sand Prince?

It's not your average fantasy book, this is a title that creates it's own idea of the genre of fantasy.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sand Prince?

The main protagonist's journey is very memorable. Who hasn't felt like an outsider/under dog at times?

What does William Turbett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It feels like he is having fun narrating the book, and is very capable of expressing the numerous characters as they come and go.

Any additional comments?

I recommend it, the author and narrator help paint an expanded idea on the genre of Fantasy Fiction.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Sorcerer's Ascension to be better than the print version?

I can't say which is better, audio or written, it's mostly up to your preferences. But I do recommend this version if you really like the series.

What did you like best about this story?

The character Azerick is a very interesting character. We see him fall from a comfortable life to a life on the streets trying to survive, to eventually being something maybe even darker. I want to see how he progresses throughout the series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment where Azerick deals with the intruders in his home, and finally making a deal with the entity known as Sharellan.

Any additional comments?

It's a good start to an interesting fantasy series. I recommend it. It may not be the next Harry Potter, but in all honesty it shouldn't, it should be it's own thing. Give it a listen if you're interested
