Historia
After Tripoli declared war on the United States in 1801, Barbary pirates captured 300 U.S. sailors and marines. President Jefferson sent navy squadrons to the Mediterranean, but he also authorized a secret mission to overthrow the government of Tripoli. He chose an unlikely diplomat, William Eaton, to lead the mission, but before Eaton departed, Jefferson grew wary of the affair and withdrew his support.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and it provided a candid window into the disfunctinal proces of our democratic government. The lesson I learned is that regardless of the egos and politics, our government and country will prevail due to the patriotism audacity and daring of the American Spirit. May we never loose it!!

Charlie Wilson's War is the untold story behind the last battle of the Cold War and how it fueled the rise of militant Islam. George Crile tells how Charlie Wilson, a maverick congressman from east Texas, conspired with a rogue CIA operative to launch the biggest, meanest, and most successful covert operation in the agency's history.

I found this a fascinating and discussing book!!! It provides a great preface to how we can shortsightedly focus on one thing and result in creating a bigger mess in the world, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and feel it should be must listening for everyone. I do not agree with what happened, this is a real life Dr Stangelove....

Historia
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, Americans were left wondering how such a long-term, globally coordinated plot could have escaped detection by the CIA and taken the nation by surprise. Robert Baer was not surprised. A retired veteran of the CIA's Directorate of Operations, Baer saw firsthand how an increasingly bureaucratic CIA lost its way in the post-Cold War world and refused to adequately acknowledge and neutralize the growing threat of Islamic fundamentalist terror in the Middle East.

Previously, I read a few articles Mr Baue worte in the Atlantic Montly. He is an individual who still needs to be on duty!! We listend to his book and really hoped that it was fictin. Unfortunatley it is not. I found him to bring a very practical view from experience with a complete knowledge of real hard knocks. He put the whole terrrist issue into perpective.

Historia
"If there is any life that is happier than the life we led on our timber ranch, it must be the sort of life which I have not read of in books or experienced in person," wrote Mark Twain, and now you can share in that experience. The beloved American humorist spent seven years on a "pleasure trip" through the untamed wilderness of Nevada. Twain intended to spend three months touring silver mines, but the lure of rough terrain and comfortable clothes proved irresistible - as will this vibrant travelogue.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Mark Twain's Western Observations. THe most enlightening is that the same charecters and situations exist today!!! I had some issues with the quality of the first CD I burned resutling is satice. The others were fine.
If you live in the West or paln a trip out here, it is a great "Read" to understand the fabric and flavor of the area.
