Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Best in the series so far?
Revisado: 10-05-24
This book is just so good! The elaborate plot of an Agatha Christie locked room mystery in the context of a seriously dysfunctional family, plus enough humor and sweetness to keep the reader away from despair. Immediately after finishing it, I started over at the beginning to enjoy the ride again. The second time through, I marveled at the intricacy of this captivating whodunnit. It's going to be hard for further books in the series to measure up to this one, but I trust that Karin Slaughter has a plan. The performance is excellent as well. I wish I had more than two hands so I could give about five thumbs up!!!

Historia
At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of science and medicine. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then a renowned and confrontational scholar winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate...and as he probes the recent ideological unrest, he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy.

Riveting story, great performance
Revisado: 03-28-24
The twists and turns of the plot are attention grabbing and sustaining. Also, as always, Eric Conger's (sp?) performance brings out the Minnesota charm of the series.

Gripping!
Revisado: 01-20-24
What a wild ride! Action, intrigue, puzzles, and politics as they happen behind closed doors. If I could have, I would have listened to the whole thing in one day! And a satisfying ending with the promise of a sequel to boot. I'm loving this series!

When Isaac Vainio helped to reveal magic to the world, he dreamed of a utopian future, a new millennium of magical prosperity. One year later, things aren't going quite as he'd hoped. An organization known as Vanguard, made up of magical creatures and ex-Porters, wants open war with the mundane world. Isaac's own government is incarcerating "potential supernatural enemies" in prisons and internment camps. And Isaac finds himself targeted by all sides.

A thrilling series finale
Revisado: 06-02-23
The Magic Ex Libra series is one of my very favorite things to re-listen to. I'm writing this review after finishing it the 3rd or 4th time. Action-packed, cerebral, and full of dry humor.
Many reviewers of this series are upset about the narrator's voice, especially his voicing of Lena. I disagree. I feel that his speaking voice fits very well with Isaac's über-nerd character. I also don't mind Lena's very nasal voice. I can always tell it's her talking, and the voice sounds female. I also think it helps to identify them as a couple to have Lena's voice be an exaggeration of Isaac's.
My personal pet peeve with narrators is terrible accents, Ave this narrator's accents are quite good. I'm a fan!!

Incredible performance
Revisado: 02-07-23
Sissy Spacek’s performance of this moving novel is so masterful that I enjoy the audiobook much more than the printed book. It’s worth a listen even if you aren’t a huge fan of the book already.

Historia
The beloved actor and screenwriter's first novel, set during World War I, delicately and elegantly explores a most unusual romance. It's almost the end of the war, and Paul Peachy, a young railway employee and amateur actor, enlists and ships off to France. Peachy instantly realizes how out of his depth he is, and never more so than when he is captured. Risking everything, Peachy, who as a child of immigrants speaks German, makes the reckless decision to impersonate one of the enemy's most famous spies.

A masterpiece
Revisado: 09-01-16
Although the book is short, the complex characters and plot make it beautifully poignant. The ending to this love story, which in different hands would have been tragic, is inspiring and deeply satisfying. I highly recommend it, and now plan to read all of Gene Wilder's novels. They couldn't be anything but masterful.
