Historia
The Durrell family returns to the island of Corfu, continuing the story begun in My Family and Other Animals. Already an ardent naturalist at the age of 10, the young Gerald lives in an unconventional and disordered household with his mother, sister, and two brothers. Convivial and open, the family plays host to a constant stream of quirky guests. But for Gerald, the main attraction is the wildlife of Corfu.

Wonderful book, misplaced actor.
Revisado: 11-27-22
The book is delightful as always. Unfortunately the story is badly acted to shreds. All of the superimposed voices are misplaced. The English sound plain weird, the Corfiots like caricatures of Italians, the Scandinavian as a cast in 'Allo 'allo, and the Irishman and the sailor are completely unintelligible. The plain text is barely passable. Reading aloud and narration are both arts, and sadly neither are present in this production.

Danger, excitement and love - this is how the glamorous Phryne Fisher is determined to live her life in her second enticing adventure. Walking the wings of a Tiger Moth plane in full flight ought to be enough excitement for most people, but not Phryne Fisher, amateur detective, woman of mystery, as delectable as the finest chocolate and as sharp as razor blades.

The lesson here is to be nice to children and don't be condesending to others. You will know that Phryne hit you - and why.

I’m hooked and contagious
Revisado: 06-22-12
This series is not PG-13 since life isn’t either. It is written in Australian English and not translated. As with all series I find some of the books more appealing than others. The author is knowledgeable in many areas and incorporates research into the stories making the books more sumptuous reading. The story of how the main character at her christening is not named after a Nymph as initially intended but after a courtesan nicely sums up her character and the authors skills in shaping characters with substance and depth. The books are detective stories with several plots developing simultaneously with interesting and surprising details. Several of the characters and their lives are carried on through more than one book wherefore they ought to be read chronologically. Who would have thought that the English aristocracy, Russian revolution, French cocaine and Australian abortion laws could be so exciting and make you chuckle? This author can write.

A disconcerting book for an adult to read. An excellent book for a child who is contemplating the consequences of its wishes and actions.

Good intentions
Revisado: 06-19-12
This book is a real struggle. The idea of combining historical accounts of pros and cons of early LDS polygamy with the challenge of being a gay boy in a modern Polyg family is intriguing. The stories related are interesting, but surely this book is a draft gone prematurely to the press. If not, this author does not have the gift of writing. Needles to say, I haven't finished this book - yet.

Funny childrens book
Revisado: 06-19-12
This is a book for children, and adults do not have to like it. The concept is funny and quirky. A nice and easy going book accessible to most children. And if they like it, there are more in the series which is a great gift idea.
