Historia
Six years ago, a group of complete strangers began gathering each morning for coffee in a convenience store, The American Market, on the outskirts of Washington, DC, and a community was born. Their story is chronicled by Charlie Pratt, son of a wealthy New England family. After a legal education that left him marginally disinterested in law, Charlie moved to Washington where he lived a comfortable and solitary life until he (and his fat and affable Black Lab, Flynn) became a central player in the morning group at the Market.

A delightful yarn about the friends we choose
Revisado: 05-11-22
Sunrise at the American Market is a delightful yarn about an unusual, dissimilar group of characters who meet at a neighborhood convenient store and slowly evolve into friends. The leisurely pace of the story allows for a gradual getting to know each other and unfolding backstories. The narrator, blue blooded Charlie, accompanied by his lovable lab Flynn, brings a fresh voice. We are rooting for this loner who until now has led an unexamined, buttoned up life. Although this story deals with some heavy issues such as immigration, urban sprawl, assisted suicide and gambling addiction, the tone is mainly optimistic and I enjoyed all the local references in Montgomery County, Maryland (near Washington, D.C.) and surrounding areas.
Ultimately this is a story of hope, friendship and connection and I felt like a guest myself at this marvelous market. You will too!
