Historia
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Ultimately disappointing
Revisado: 08-28-17
Interesting concept but poorly executed. It presents some interesting ideas but ultimately feels a little bit shoved together. Not nearly as good as Not Alone.

The third book but best so far
Revisado: 12-29-16
Each book adds more depth to the characters and it is hard not to get thoroughly sucked into the world and the lives of the heroes. There is humour, sadness, and so much to cheer about. Impossible to be disappointed if you make it this far.

Don't be fooled into buying this one!
Revisado: 09-17-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No one would enjoy this unless they really haven't had much experience listening to well-written, well-performed audio books.
Would you ever listen to anything by Paul Draker again?
Doubt it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Gabriel Vaughan’s performances?
I would try to avoid him too. He does such a strange voice for female characters that it is really distracting.
What character would you cut from Pyramid Lake?
Trevor - the main character - was terribly written.
Any additional comments?
This author had an excellent premise but incredibly terrible execution. The amount of repetition was unbelievable. How many times does he have to say he is doing it all for the daughter? I won't let my daughter down again? Over and over. And the techno-babble in regards to computers which spills over to babble about guns was unnecessary. And the characters were so one-dimensional and cliche. The main character was SOOO scarey and SUCH a bad-ass and good at everything. He was brilliant but he could fight and he was so devoted to his daughter. I don't mind swearing but the main character would swear and be annoying and it made no sense. Just so terribly written. I wanted to like it but that was impossible.
(and I didn't even get in to the author's weird agendas - slamming government, slamming psychiatry - it just seemed petty and ill informed)

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Good premise. Strong start but weak, weak finish. Quite disappointing. The narration is also distracting. Ray Porter shouldn't do the weird female voice.

Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Not as good as the first.
Revisado: 08-02-15
You'll read this a lot: The second book is not nearly as good as Ready Player One. The references to old video games music etc. feel very forced in this book. It is not a bad book overall but it is certainly not as engaging as the first book. Will Wheaton, however, still delivers a great performance.

Historia
At an exclusive school somewhere outside of Arlington, Virginia, students aren't taught history, geography, or mathematics - at least not in the usual ways. Instead, they are taught to persuade. Here the art of coercion has been raised to a science. Students harness the hidden power of language to manipulate the mind and learn to break down individuals by psychographic markers in order to take control of their thoughts. The very best will graduate as "poets": adept wielders of language who belong to a nameless organization that is as influential as it is secretive.

Fabulous - nit to be missed
Revisado: 06-25-15
I've seen it written that this book is a very niche book and you have to have knowledge of 80s trivia to enjoy it. While it may be true that having grown up in the 80s adds to the story it certainly isn't required. This is a fabulous story very relevant to our current age of technology and games like Minecraft and technology like oculus rift and project Morpheus. You need to read this book (or listen to it). I didn't want the story to end, it was that good.

Not his best
Revisado: 05-25-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I've read all of Lincoln Child's book and am a huge fan of him and his books with Douglas Preston (especially the older books). This one didn't read like a genuine Lincoln Child book. I kept thinking the writing was poor and wondered if maybe he had a ghost writer. Either that or he rushed this book off to the publisher and didn't spend much time in editing. The story and plot are okay but the writing really detracts. The gore reads in a very amateurish way and the dialogue is terrible and unbelievable. Overall disappointing.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Might go old school with Jurassic Park.
What about Johnathan McClain’s performance did you like?
Solid reading. Well done.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Good plot and story premise but poorly executed.
