Historia
If Lark and Mikki didn’t have each other, they’d have nothing in this miserable town. So the best friends stick together, working night shift at the highway travel stop, going nowhere fast. Until a stranger drops in, heading for Florida, and Mikki impulsively leaves with him, never to be seen again. Eight years later, Lark is finally getting her life back together for the sake of her young daughter and Mikki’s lovably prickly grandma, who can no longer care for herself. People have almost stopped blaming Lark for Mikki’s disappearance, and she’s engaged to the nicest guy on highway patrol.

better as a short story
Revisado: 01-22-25
The story was too long. I fast Forwarded through a large amount of the story and didn't lose anything. The end was unexpected and good.

Historia
Investigative reporter Matt Katz has been searching for his biological father since he was a little kid. But it wasn't until his 40s that he realized he was on the wrong journey altogether. The true story is wrapped in confusion and secrecy, and in the end it upended the truth about who he is – raising questions about identity, fatherhood, medical ethics and what family really means. But will finding answers make him whole, or just make things even more complicated? “One of those rare stories in which a deeply personal narrative collides with a hidden history. I count it among my favorites...

the need to know our history
Revisado: 07-13-24
The story and relationships are fascinating. i have never had a great need to know my history beyond the family i know. My father did. He worked on our family tree pre dna. if he were still alive i would like to give him a dna test. After listening to Matts story i hope i would have been more understanding of my dads interest in his famiy history.

The murder of animals in every chapter hated it
Revisado: 01-01-24
Every reference early on in the book includes murdering animals. No doubt there is some way to have this experience without killing everything. How about trying these experiences living on plants. Couldn’t get beyond a couple of chapters. Very disappointed.

In doing so they paid the ultimate price in their quest for fame.

Did not hold my interest
Revisado: 01-01-24
I don’t know if I don’t like these people or the way they were written or the way the narrator voiced their conversations. I was interested in them
Because of shadow divers. What brought them to that submarine. I didn’t get halfway through the book before I stopped listening.

The story started well. Held my interest for about half the story. Got a bit long. Too much talk about baby burps and poops. The end was just stupid.

Historia
David L. Mearns has discovered some of the world's most fascinating and elusive shipwrecks. The Shipwreck Hunter chronicles his most intriguing finds. It describes the extraordinary techniques used, the detailed research, and mid-ocean stamina and courage required to find a wreck thousands of feet beneath the sea, plus the moving human stories that lie behind each of these oceanic tragedies. Combining the adventuring derring-do of Indiana Jones with the precision of a scientist, The Shipwreck Hunter opens an illuminating porthole into the shadowy depths of the ocean.

A lot of information about multiple wrecks
Revisado: 04-04-20
I have always been both fascinated and terrified by ship wrecks. The book is heavy on the story of the wrecks. Which I see as a positive. Less emphasis on the scientific.
This could easily have been 2 books. There were so many wrecks that I started to get lost by the end. A number of wrecks I had never heard of. I found that most interesting. I also found the brief discussion of funding the expeditions interesting

Carine McCanless is the best gift her brother gave
Revisado: 11-29-15
If you could sum up The Wild Truth in three words, what would they be?
It makes sense
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wild Truth?
I don't think I can limit this to moments. I read "Into the Wild" years ago and struggled to understand what had driven this young man to disappear. Now I understand. Who knows what Chris might have done or become if he had lived. In some ways his sister's story is more compeling. She stayed in the world, struggled to forge bonds with siblings, with men and with her parents. I would probably be more like Chris and seek solitude and wilderness for healing. But it is Carine I give the most credit as well as their half siblings and step mother. This is a story of the capacity of human beings to overcome being raised by the most dysfunctional parents. I wish a wonderful future for Carine, her siblings and her daughter. I feel sorry for parents because they clearly lost out by losing these good people who somehow were their children.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is an amazing story about the attempts of two siblings to be real and genuine human beings in the face of life started in lies and abuse. Could not stop listening to it and that is rare for me these days.

Historia
At first, Ken Abraham wrote off his mother’s changes in behavior as quirks that just come with old age. There was memory loss, physical decline, hygiene issues, paranoia, and uncharacteristic attitudes. He soon realized that dementia had changed her life - and his family’s - forever. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 5.4 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer’s disease. That’s one in eight older Americans. More than likely, that figure includes someone you know and love.

Very Christian and not very useful so far
Revisado: 11-29-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Unless you are extremely Christian I would not recommend this book. Even if you are I don't know if I would recommend this book. I am only half way through this book and have almost given up on it several times.
What could Ken Abraham have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
As my mother has Alzheimer's and my father passed away from a brain tumor that had similar effects on his behavior I had hoped to find something I could relate to in this book. The almost constant Christian references make this a nearly impossible task. Does the reader really need to know who wrote a new hymn? I am going to struggle through listening to this book in hopes that it has something useful to add to my exerience but I am not optimistic. I almost threw it out the window when you explained making your mother change her clothes because she was going to wear pants to church. If she was wearing her bra on the outside of her clothes then you might have had a point.
What about Tim Lundeen’s performance did you like?
Nice voice. Sometimes lacks emotion. Overall easy to listen to his reading.
Could you see When Your Parent Becomes Your Child being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Absolutely never.
Any additional comments?
I will update this review if I manage on struggle through the rest of it.
