Historia
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

A private investigation
Revisado: 11-21-20
This is a wonderful read. Grainger has DC Smith at his wittiest and most introspective. The case is a troubling one that haunts Smith with echoes of a series of brutal murders solved by the detective years ago. The ending is stunning!

Historia
With the country in the grip of economic malaise, and worried about her business, Maisie Dobbs is relieved to accept an apparently straightforward assignment from an old friend to investigate certain matters concerning a potential land purchase. Her inquiries take her to a picturesque village in Kent during the hop-picking season, but beneath its pastoral surface she finds evidence that something is amiss. Mysterious fires erupt in the village with alarming regularity, and a series of petty crimes suggests a darker criminal element at work.

An Incomplete Revenge
Revisado: 02-21-20
Winspear has written another page turner. In this story we get to know some Roma or gypsy caravaners who come to harvest hops. A strange event during the Great War puzzles Maggie as she investigates some deaths during the war. As usual the story has interesting characters with great back stories. Love this series. So glad there are several more!

After the War I and her service as a nurse, Maisie hangs out her shingle back at home: M. DOBBS, TRADE AND PERSONAL INVESTIGATIONS. Maisie Dobbs
Revisado: 02-10-20
This is my first encounter with Maisie. This mystery has so much depth to its plot and the characters depicted I am thrilled to know that this is a substantial series. The narration is perfect. I am ordering the next audiobook in the series. I am looking forward to revisiting some of the characters and meeting the new ones. This series was mentioned as a good follow up to those of us who are Louise Penney fans. Though the period is very different this novel held up very well by comparison. Interesting premise from the start. You will not be disappointed!

Historia
Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn't mean she's going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter. Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key.

Spider Woman is breathtaking
Revisado: 02-19-19
Anne Hillerman has stepped in to her father’s shoes and wears them well. This is the first of her novels that I have read. I will read them all and look for more novels from her. I like her take on Chee. The narrator is artful. She distinguishes the voices of the main characters in a way that always makes it clear who is speaking. I am very pleased to know that the story hasn’t ended.

Love the Dahlias
Revisado: 11-07-18
I am a diehard fan of China Bayles so when I had binged the whole series while sewing I was distraught. What to do? I tried the first of the Dahlias and I was hooked. The characters are well developed and the plot twists are terrific. The only problem is that I have listened to all of them, also! Please Ms. Albert, may we have some more?
