Historia
Ty Cobb is baseball royalty, maybe even the greatest player who ever lived. His lifetime batting average is still the highest of all time, and when he retired in 1928, after twenty-one years with the Detroit Tigers and two with the Philadelphia Athletics, he held more than ninety records. But the numbers don't tell half of Cobb's tale. The Georgia Peach was by far the most thrilling player of the era: "Ty Cobb could cause more excitement with a base on balls than Babe Ruth could with a grand slam," one columnist wrote.

Loved This
Revisado: 02-14-17
The true story of Ty Cobb, who was NOT the psychopath portrayed in the abysmal biopic of a few years ago. Shame on Al Stump and especially his editors who allowed his 1961 biography of Cobb to print lies. The real story is entertainment enough.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Best Book on Appalachian Culture in a While

some may be offended at the 4 letter words, but listen - this is important stuff to understand how the rust belt, Appalachia, and other areas have been affected by the late 20th and early 21st century

Good stuff
Revisado: 01-17-17
a good overview of Romans Chapter 8 and an introduction to Batterson's writing. As usual, I have a few quibbling differences with some of his explanations but agree with him overall.

Historia
Before the charismatic John Duval Gluck, Jr., came along, letters from New York City children to Santa Claus were destroyed, unopened, by the US Post Office. Gluck saw an opportunity and created the Santa Claus Association. The effort delighted the public, and for 15 years money and gifts flowed to the only group authorized to answer Santa's mail. Gluck became a Jazz Age celebrity, rubbing shoulders with the era's movie stars and politicians.

Historia
It is 1891, and London is still reeling from the horror of the unsolved Ripper murders when Inspector Lestrade is sent to the Isle of Wight to investigate a strange corpse found walled up in Shanklin Chine. It is merely the beginning of a series of brutal and bizarre killings so apparently random, that only a warped genius could be responsible.

An interesting read

A nice piece for casual Holmes fans . Fun to see Lestrade as a developed character interacting with notables of the late 19th century. The mystery itself would have been solved by Sherlock in a chapter or two. Trow is a very good voice actor.
