More plot than I expected

Was I uncomfortable most the time? Yes. Was I surprised about the amount of plot in the book? Doubly yes.
I’m excited about this potential supernatural element to the book, and the next one is already downloaded.
The spice was…unsettlingly hot. There’s probably something wrong with us.

Another good addition, though slow

This story was a lot slower than the others and I believe it felt that way because we spend a lot of time in the past. The combat scenes felt lacking at times too, though there were many of them.
The romance scenes were very sparse. This felt more like GJ writing than book 3.

Fun story, off putting narration

I liked the story. The world was deep and alive. Things had happened to our MC, she had history that came up, but none of it felt like “I missed something.”
The world had a lot of history too. At first the different names for planets/races/things was a struggle, but the more they were used the easier things got.
The storyline itself was fun and engaging. Every plot point well developed, and no obvious holes.
My main qualm was the narration. The MC was 25 years old but the narrator sounded 70. It was really weird when the romance scenes were happening and in my head this 28yo man is getting hot and bothered by a granny. I mean…everyone deserves love but… yeah… it was weird.

Good story executed less than expected

The writing of this story made me wonder whether GJ had a ghostwriter on this one. The storyline was good but the execution was a 3/5, not like GJ at all.
There was r*pe (not on screen) which is super unlike her for this series, and the consensual spicy scenes were very lacking in depth and description. Overall, the sensory descriptions were lacking throughout and I found myself not able to picture the settings well.
I was also a little miffed by how weak the FL was. She’s a dragon, and I expected her to exhibit more of the same fervor as her brothers. Sabrina for example from book 2 was more what I was expecting of Rowan. She could still have been the empathetic loving caregiver (just like Sabrina had been) but she should’ve been powerful. As a Princess who was not taught to fight or do magic, she would’ve learned other ways to survive. Manipulation, deception, and persuasion. Mostly this “power” was exploited from her and got her in trouble several times, as if she didn’t know how to wield it. She leaned on her magical accomplice way too much and was weak. I found myself not liking her as much as I wanted to.
I will of course continue the series because one rough book in a good series happens.

Very well done reverse harem

The lovers were all unique with their own character arc that they needed the MC to fulfill.
The story felt a little rushed. I think this could’ve been a 5 book series and the alt antagonist could’ve been introduced sooner so it’s less of a surprise at the end of book 3.
My one big qualm… the author writes a sex scene in the ocean and it’s obvious to me she’s never actually done this… I do not recommend it. The results are painful. 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5

Drags, boring, plot forced, FMC TSTL

Info dump at the beginning made the whole book harder to follow, and less interesting.
FMC makes so many irrational and stupid decisions she should’ve died several times.
I haven’t even finished the book, I’m still listening and groaning “omfg” at the “climax” scene where they’re literally being pursued by deadly forces, stop to talk, then when it comes to a topic that the MC wants to know, and I do too, the other characters say “there’s no time to explain” and then they go on talking about something else for minutes, and then the FMC screams in anger while they’re trying to be quiet and hide.
The author has good prose, and the idea is good/fun, but the execution is bad. The plot meanders, the pacing is all over the place, the FMC makes so many bad/stupid decisions. I’m literally only holding out for the sex scene that hasn’t come yet… I will not be reading the next one.
The narrator did okay. She misused voices several times, like she didn’t know who was supposed to be speaking. She didn’t do a great job of identifying what was narration and what was dialogue for the FMC.
Do not recommend. There’s so many better books out there.

The happy ending I needed

It was so hard to listen to because the emotion was all so raw and real. Excellent.

Smart, well done, spicy that leaves you wanting more

The FL is not an idiot, and the ML is more than walking abs. The plot is engaging and fun, somewhere between Bridgerton and Hunger Games with a side of a coup.
The spicy scenes are a bit of a blue ball, no payoff in book one… so unfortunately I’ll be buying book 2 tomorrow instead of waiting for my credits to drop. 🥵

Mixed feelings… so well done, so gut wrenching

I am sort of destroyed. This book was a horrible roller coaster. My head hurts because I started it this morning and just finished and I’ve cried far too much in between. It made me aroused, sick to my stomach, hopeful, desolate, ugh… I guess it was fantastic and I hated it. It was not what I wanted or needed. I had heard so many good things and I’d been listening to spicy Dragon Shifter books where consent is huge and the ML never hurts the FL… this was not that at all. This hurt. Gods, mostly because it was so real. This kind of thing really happens.
Anyway, read it I guess, but not for the feint of heart.
