Historia
Florence Bramford was a ladies' maid to the ladies-in-waiting of two Queen Elizabeths from 1939 to 1974. Think real-life The Queen, Downton Abbey, or Upstairs Downstairs...inside the British Royal Family from the servant's perspective half a century ago. Margaret Bramford presents the life of her aunt, told in her own words. Florence had a Victorian childhood and Edwardian adolescence. She was privileged to reside in many royal residences with her ladies-in-waiting and joined many royal tours around the world.

Welcome to Jeremy's farm. It's an idyllic spot, offering picturesque views across the Cotswolds, bustling hedgerows, woodlands and natural springs. Jeremy always liked the idea being a farmer. But, while he was barrelling around the world having more fun with cars than was entirely reasonable, it seemed obvious that the actual, you know, farming was much better left to someone else. Then one day he decided he would do the farming himself. After all, how hard could it be?

Join Clara Parkes on a cross-country adventure and meet a cast of characters that includes the shepherds, dyers, and countless workers without whom our knitting needles would be empty, our mills idle, and our feet woefully cold. Travel the country with her as she meets a flock of Saxon Merino sheep in upstate New York, tours a scouring plant in Texas, visits a steamy Maine dyehouse, helps sort freshly shorn wool on a working farm, and learns how wool fleece is measured, baled, shipped, and turned into skeins.

Organised and fascinating
Revisado: 01-29-23
Organised and well explained. I learned so much. I love how he closes with the various arguments on what caused the fall of Rome and isn’t too prideful as to insist on one or another but to present the information and invites us to decide.
Hearing some of the stories and names from Pompeii made me wonder if J.K. Rowling was inspired by some of these for her Harry Potter series.
The only complaint I have isn’t probably something he can change. It is the inconsistency of his voice in tempo. Keeping the audio sped up helped overcome that. 1.3 was my favorite speed.

Why did Agatha Christie spend her career pretending that she was "just" an ordinary housewife, when clearly she wasn't? Lucy Worsley's biography is not just of a massively, internationally successful writer. It's also the story of a person who, despite the obstacles of class and gender, became an astonishingly successful working woman. With access to rarely seen personal letters and papers, Lucy Worsley's biography is both authoritative and entertaining and makes us realize what an extraordinary pioneer Agatha Christie was—truly a woman who wrote the twentieth century.

What an incredible story. This is one my husband and I enjoyed together and were on the edge of our seats. The movie was excellent as well, but the book is essential to read for all the historical detail.
The audiobook cover looks basic, but don’t be put off by it! It was extremely well done and I enjoyed the Medieval music in between chapters.

✨Thoughts on Lord of the Rings audiobooks & more. 💫
Before I begin, I must say I’m so sad that I’ve not read the books before now. I kept putting them on my year list and just didn’t get to them. This year, I chose to study Tolkien and his works (along with C.S. Lewis, Dorothy Sayers, and G.K. Chesterton). This put LOTR as top priority. This segues into what I planned to say about the afore mentioned topic.
There are certain books that I want to read in the spine and there are certain books that I would rather listen to. (Poldark was a must-listen, for instance.) LOTR was always one of those for me. So, I tried. Again and again I tried. But, Rob Inglis was so boring to me, and I couldn’t concentrate, and I found no joy.
I complained to my book friends online. They told me how they believed he was the only reader for the job and that everyone loved him *because* he sounded so much like J.R.R. Tolkien. BUT, and it’s a big BUT, Tolkien’s friends in the Inklings club found Tolkien boring too!! He drove them nuts as well! It wasn’t until his son Christopher came to the groups to read aloud that people could really start getting into the stories!
Until then, I was defeated. I gave up hoping for that someday when I could either find it within me to crack the spine or to connect somehow to boring, ole Rob who sounded just like dear, sweet Tolkien.
Last year, my son told me that Andy Serkis was narrating all the LOTR and The Hobbit. This was my chance!! Maybe I could discover the magic too? I love the movies. I love The Hobbit book and movies. This HAS to be it!
Looking at a few reviews on audible was good. Most everyone was rating it high. The few lower ones were people who didn’t like Andy’s singing. Pulease! Think of the bawdy, average old medieval farmers singing these tunes and Andy has it about right.
Tonight, I hope to finish the first LOTR book. I’m happy to say—-I LOVE THE LOTR narration by Andy Serkis! He brings it all to life, and having acted in the movies, he has basically lived the story too. I’m incredibly happy with the audiobooks. Yay! Now I can finally say I’ve read LOTR. And, for those who don’t believe listening to audiobooks is reading—don’t get me started on that subject. 😄
This book has such an incredible contrast in the war in good versus evil. The quest for power and the illusion that if it’s used for good is a timeless lesson in this earth life. Tolkien’s fantasy story illustrates how this is an illusion and that everyone who tries for this quest will be “touched” in some way.
There are so many quotable quotes. Many lessons to take away. This is a new favorite of mine and definitely will find it’s way into my classical canon. Perhaps my next reading of this book will be in the spine.

Betty Ford: First Lady, Women’s Advocate, Survivor, Trailblazer is the inspiring story of an ordinary Midwestern girl thrust onto the world stage and into the White House under extraordinary circumstances. Setting a precedent as first lady, Betty Ford refused to be silenced by her critics as she publicly championed equal rights for women and spoke out about issues that had previously been taboo - breast cancer, depression, abortion, and sexuality.

What a beautiful woman inside and out Betty Ford was! This was an absolutely inspirational biography. Her life wasn’t perfect but she worked through many struggles with a fierce determination that is awe inspiring.
I knew nothing of Betty Ford except her her name and that she was an former US President’s wife. What I learned about her strengthen me as a person and as a woman.
