Historia
Colleagues-turned-spouses Dr. Laurie Montgomery and Dr. Jack Stapleton already have their plates full with demanding forensic pathology work and family pressures. The last thing they need is the sudden death of a colleague. Yet when Laurie’s apparently vital and healthy longtime friend Dr. Sue Passero dies mysteriously in the hospital parking garage, an autopsy is required, and it falls uncomfortably under Laurie’s purview as the chief medical examiner. So when Laurie asks Jack to take special care with the case, he can hardly refuse.

Child Predator wrapped in a mystery

Had to stop this book halfway through, thought it was a mystery instead listening to 38 year old man groom a child for sex was a little much for me.

Stand alone better than start of series
Revisado: 12-22-23
It started out as a good tale about medieval knights, but I was confused if it was based on Medieval England or totally fiction as they use actual cities and titles but also made up names for chess. It had good characters that you get invested into but there is a little too much over powerful villains that seem to pull out wins when all hope is lost. Lots of flip flops in the plot with a sad ending that if this was a book on its own would be a solid book but as the start of the series the constant plot flip flops and torture of the main character makes me not want to invest more time listening.

Holly must be narrated by female from now on
Revisado: 10-12-23
Holly Gibny was introduced under the Mr Mercedes books as well as Outsider but while Will Patton is a great narrator, his version of Holly comes off too neurotic and I hesitated getting this book because of it the new narrator bring a whole new feel to the character.
If your a regular King fan you know Holly is a germ phobe so as this book takes place during covid she has her opinions but it is not the main part of book, the reviews caught up in this with their “woke “ did not even listen to the book.
It’s a creepy book about cannibalism, that at times is hard to listen to which is what makes King such a good author.
Overall listen to the book and get your own perspective and don’t get caught up in all negative reviews by non king fans who never listened to the book

Ok mystery with typical bumbling hero
Revisado: 08-18-23
Not much different than a Dan Brown novel with an ok mystery , obviously hero who stumbles it no danger and a villain who seems to have Michael Myers’s ability to not die

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Dumb ending to a cliche story
Revisado: 03-23-23
Spoiler Alert:
Premise of child survivor of family tragedy investigating family murders sounded interesting, and you will be hooked waiting to find out. To find out in the end some random stranger was responsible for the murders in an insurance scam was a let down after investing your self in the Day’s, also you could tell that Libby was going to eventually run into someone involved who would try to kill her was cliche. Side note, the graphic description of the murder of children was off putting, and I’m an avid horror listener. Narrators were very good.

Historia
Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.
