Historia
Beckett: If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have. I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride. My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart.

Historia
Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is not what dating columnist Cleo Wilder wanted, but she plans a solo retreat―at the insistence of her boss―in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some self-care while she figures out the next steps in her love life and her career.

The intense emotions thus book created!
Revisado: 02-03-24
I was invested in this book from the get go. My brother died while I was listening and the several cathartic cries along with Cleo helped me process. The ending gives me a smile and hope. Highly recommend!

Historia
In 1950, after over 50 years of military occupation and colonial rule, the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico staged an unsuccessful armed insurrection against the United States. Violence swept through the island: Assassins were sent to kill President Harry Truman, gunfights roared in eight towns, police stations and post offices were burned down. In order to suppress this uprising, the US Army deployed thousands of troops and bombarded two towns.

OMG, all my apologies!
Revisado: 09-05-22
I read this book upon recommendation of a Puerto Rico FB group I belong to. Currently I spend 2 mos a year on this beautiful island and look to increase that each year. I think it's essential to understand the history of a country if you want to understand the people's who are your neighbors. Thank you for this book. Everytime I now view a PR flag I will understand why it's displayed and painted everywhere. And send a quick prayer for the ultimate independence or equality of these wonderful people.

Perfect summer (or any season) read
Revisado: 08-03-21
I completely enjoyed every aspect of this book. Great storyline with some nice surprise twists. Quite a few characters but they were all developed enough when introduced that they were easy to picture in my mind and keep them all straight. I especially enjoyed the great narration. Sometimes I got so sucked into the plot that I could smell the ocean!

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Did it have to end ?
Revisado: 04-08-21
I felt like I lost my newly adopted family when this book ended. It totally absorbed me for a whole week driving to and from work. I took Simeon Opeal (?sp) and all the other characters to work with me. The book carried me into another land and time and completely captured my imagination. The Mexican readers made it believable and each one was music to my ears. An all time favorite.

Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.
