Basically the title. The book was fine, a little dry and boring so I wouldn’t recommend it. I think the author should’ve had someone else read her book because her voice…. I can’t explain exactly why but I really didn’t like it.

But it had the same problems that I didn’t like about Desperation. Stephen King has an annoying tendency to draaaaawww out scenes for soooooo long. Scenes that are supposed to be suspenseful, or urgent, are often suddenly interspersed with these long rambling digressions that leave me frustrated. More than once I’ve screamed “get on with it already!” while listening.
I don’t want to personally insult the author, but it’s like he’s in love with his own inane ramblings.

JESUS DID NOT HAVE ANY BIOLOGICAL SIBLINGS.
MARY WAS A VIRGIN ALL THROUGHOUT HER LIFE AND SHE LIVED IN A CHASTE MARRIAGE WITH HER HUSBAND.
Even if you’re not Catholic and don’t recognize the importance of the Blessed Virgin, you could at least be respectful.
Very disappointed, as I had liked and enjoyed most of her books until now.

This book is full of the typical New-Agey nonsense that you find at most paranormal conventions.
As a Catholic, I am interested in exorcisms and demonic encounters, because I truly believe in them, but the warrens don’t teach according to the Catholic Church (despite claiming to be devout Catholics).

The first red flag was when they talked about witchcraft and Wiccans as being positive things.
Then Ed Warren goes on to talk about how hell doesn’t exist, which is weird considering his supposed profession.
I don’t believe for one second the claim made in this book that these people have ever taught priests on exorcisms. That seems so ridiculous that I suspect that probably most of the book is factually questionable.
For anyone interested in (probably made up) accounts of demonic possession, this book is for you.

But for devout Christians or Catholics I would stay far away, as this book, ironically, is liable to lead one to grave error and worst case scenario, spiritual death.

I thought this book was going to be about exploring stories and maybe adding a Christian layer to well-known stories, but instead all it is is just Mrs. L’Engle’s views on theology (and a very poor theology at that).
If I had known this was a book on her theology and not a book about stories I would never have purchased it. She’s not a theologian, she’s a children’s book author, and it shows in the way she writes.

Also, she’s obsessed with separating truth from fact. As a Christian, I can appreciate that truth often goes beyond simple facts, but she seems determined to completely separate the two which isn’t rational or right.
And lastly, it’s just boring.

I am a Christian interested in the debate surrounding gender ideology and this book just wasn’t for me. It starts off interesting, introducing an actual case of parents dealing with a child who is questioning her identity, then without any resolution of conclusion it drops that account and goes into a loooong and dry dialogue about the history of gender ideology.
No offense but most of the people I know who subscribe to “gender-fluid” ideas probably don’t even know (or care) about this.
I was hoping it would give me a way to navigate this current issue as a Christian (who is also Gen-Z and has seen many of my own friends completely buy into this ideology).
That’s not the type of book this is. Not entirely sure what type of book this is. I couldn’t keep going after 3 hours, which I think is a fair chance to give any book.
Also (this may just be me) but I would’ve preferred a female narrator. Idk why. The male voice just didn’t help.

It’s amazing to think that Teresita was an actual historical figure. I’m sure the author took some liberties in telling her story to fill in some blanks, but I’d like to believe there’s some truth to this book, and that makes it important.

This is basically a listless and meandering book about two people who are perfectly average yet for some reason feel like they “don’t fit in” *cue eye roll. It speaks to the age we’re in right now, which is pretty depressing.
