Historia
When the British fought the young United States during the War of 1812, they knew that taking the mouth of the Mississippi River was the key to crippling their former colony. Capturing the city of New Orleans and stopping trade up the river sounded like a simple task - New Orleans was far away from Washington, out of sight and out of mind for the politicians. What the British didn't count on was the power of General Andrew Jackson.

Buy in print if feel the need to read this book
Revisado: 01-02-21
I was very excited to see this book. Andrew Jackson has always been of interest to me. So I didn't bother to read the reviews. What would have been a highly interesting story was ruined by the obnoxiousness of the author reading his book. I didn't make it more than 15 minutes. While there might be aspects of Jackson's life that would give him the title of hero, I know that he didn't live a life without blemish and within the time I lost listening to the pompous attitude of the author reading his book, could lead a reader to think that Jackson is blameless. If you really want to know what is said in this book, buy it in print. I, however, will find another author that wrote about Jackson and the War of 1812.

I didn't care for the narrator, but good stuff, dry material but a nice overview.

Historia
In The March of Folly, two-time Pulitzer Prize winning historian Barbara Tuchman tackles the pervasive presence of folly in governments through the ages. Defining folly as the pursuit by governments of policies contrary to their own interests, despite the availability of feasible alternatives, Tuchman details four decisive turning points in history that illustrate the very heights of folly in government.

I was recommended this book for the Vietnam portion. This book will provide a greater understanding for the history behind why we were there. Great for history buffs.

Germany, 1660: When a dying boy is pulled from the river with a mark crudely tattooed on his shoulder, hangman Jakob Kuisl is called upon to investigate whether witchcraft is at play in his small Bavarian town. Whispers and dark memories of witch trials and the women burned at the stake just seventy years earlier still haunt the streets of Schongau.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 12-08-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, but only to the right friend
What other book might you compare The Hangman's Daughter to and why?
I cannot think of a book to compare this one with.
What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?
Gardner's performance was magnificent. He did well with the German pronunciation of names and places.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
Any additional comments?
I did not realize that this was historical fiction nor dealt with "witchcraft" I was pleasantly surprise by how much I enjoyed this book. I chose it on a sale because it sounded interestingly. I love it when I am presently surprised by books.

lacking
Revisado: 08-05-17
I had high hopes for this book and was disappointed. Took to long to blow the bridge. And the ending took to long. Nothing like a 15 minute death scene.
