it was not for me. But listened anyway.
Revisado: 06-24-24
I've been a progressive my entire life and altho October 7th changed me & how I view today's progressives in Congress, my values haven't changed. I understand how DEI has hurt the Jewish community but I also know it has helped others. and even though those others are not standing up for us right now I still can't change who I am. I am happy when others succeed. Especially if they've been oppressed because of who they are.
I feel there needs to be a discussion if the Jewish people should be treated as more than a religion because we are. We are united by our history & by traditions that are 1000s years old. Maybe we should be included in DEI?
Yet part of this book hit home. The one thing that surprises me are some of the alliances. I find myself listening to voices of people who's politics I can't stand & 100% agreeing with them when it comes to Israel & the Jewish people. We do need to get used to uncomfortable alliances. There is strength in numbers.
The book is worth reading. I think many in the center-left will enjoy it more than I did. To me it was listening to a similar but different viewpoint.

Historia
MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan isn’t one to avoid arguments. He relishes them as the lifeblood of democracy and the only surefire way to establish the truth. Arguments help us solve problems, uncover new ideas we might not have considered, and nudge our disagreements toward mutual understanding. A good argument, made in good faith, has intrinsic value—and can also simply be fun.

The person reading is impossible to listen to
Revisado: 03-13-24
imagine taking a college course on a topic that you're interested in but the professor stands up in the front of the room and speaks in a monotone voice, and the cadence is saying a few words together and then stopping in the middle of a sentence in every single sentence. I'm on chapter 7 and I can't even tell you what she's talking about. Parts of his book are analytical and even physiological and she just drones on. An audiobook is only as good as the person reading it. I'm returning this because I can't get anything out of it. When I try to listen my mind wanders, she does not hold my attention at all. Disappointed because as an empath I was looking forward to reading this book.
Perhaps this book would be better enjoyed in book format.

I absolutely loved this book, loved Hilde and all the characters in this small New England town.
Mary Beth Hurt made Hilde come to life. This book takes on relationships, alcoholism, and reminds us to let people in our life, even when we think they don't live up to our standards.

Historia
When Jeff Weaver hopped in a car with Bernie Sanders in the summer of 1986, he had no idea the Vermont backroads would lead them all the way to the 2016 presidential campaign. In How Bernie Won, Weaver shows listeners how Bernie built a movement that would sweep America and inspire millions. He vowed not to run a negative campaign. He would focus on policies, not personalities. He would not be beholden to big money. He would actually make America great. Weaver also shows how they overcame significant challenges.

That was not what I expected
Revisado: 05-21-18
I expected this to be more of a book about Bernie than the inner workings of the Democratic Party, and why we keep losing. Really eye opening and needed to be said. I'm a senior citizen who has voted for Democrats my entire life and I'm so disgusted with the Democratic Party & where it is now. In fact the only reason I'm still a registered Dem is because I live in one of those closed primary States.
Jeff's observation about closed primaries and how they let Republicans interfere with our primaries, more than if we had open primaries, especially for those of us in red States, was very thought-provoking and spot-on.
I'm glad you wrote this book Jeff- this is a story that needed to be told at this moment in time.

Revisado: 05-07-18
As a white woman who always has said "I don't see color" this book really made me think.
But before this book makes you look inside of yourself you are drawn into an amazing story about a black nurse and a white supremacist. Picot adds so much depth to all the characters in this story. I couldn't stop listening. I had to know what happened next.

One year into Donald Trump's presidency, the US 2016 presidential election is still being fought by both parties. If you're a Bernie supporter you need to read this
Revisado: 03-31-18
Where does What Happened to Bernie Sanders rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's a political book & I am someone who spent a lot of time volunteering for Bernie during the 2016 primary so I loved it.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
It validated everything I felt in my gut during the primaries.
What about Peter Berkrot’s performance did you like?
He was easy to listen to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me mad and convinced me to never send one more penny to the DNC, DCCC or DSCC. My donations from now on will only go to the candidates I support.
Any additional comments?
The book starts out painfully slow. I think Jared was trying to let the reader know his credentials, which was fine, but that part went on a little too long.
Once you get past that you will not be able to put this book down.

Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

This should've been a magazine article.
Revisado: 01-16-18
What would have made The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up better?
By the time you get thru 2 chapters your entire house could've been spic and span & you still wouldn't have learned anything new.
All she says is - Throw things away. Imagine how you want your room to look. Then clean it. Put things away. Think about your loved ones having to clean your house out after you die & make decisions based on that.
I just saved you one credit & hours of your life.
What could Marie Kondo have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Written a one page magazine article rather than saying the same thing over and over again to make it a book.
People don't care that she wanted to clean her room instead of studying.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emily Woo Zeller?
Anyone who could make a point rather than rambling on and on.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger at myself for wasting my time listening.

I didn’t want it to end
Revisado: 12-16-17
I usually stay away from romance novels because they’re so predictable. This was so much more than a romantic book. This story draws you in and you feel like you really know Harriet and Ethan. There’s so much more to them than just two people falling in love. Delightful banter, messages of striving to live a fuller life, this was a very enjoyable and entertaining book.
Since this was my first Sarah Morgan book, I guess I’m going to have to work my way backwards thru this series. Loved it.
