The ultimate proof that this book is super effective is that I found it when I needed it most. I’ve been thinking about what Paula has to say since I started reading it, and it’s already doing me a world of good. I highly recommend this book to one who needs to change and thinks they can’t.

Magnificent!
Revisado: 03-26-25
It has been some time since I have read such a unique and important take on magic and fantasy, among the many other relevant themes of the story. I think this series is highly relevant for the times in which we are living, and I hope it travels far and wide.

Historia
During André Leon Talley’s first magazine job, alongside Andy Warhol at Interview, a fateful meeting with Karl Lagerfeld began a decades-long friendship with the enigmatic, often caustic designer. Propelled into the upper echelons by his knowledge and adoration of fashion, André moved to Paris as bureau chief of John Fairchild’s Women’s Wear Daily, befriending fashion's most important designers (Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta). But as André made friends, he also made enemies.

Look out below, some serious name-dropping going on!
Revisado: 05-28-24
This book is honestly the extent of my knowledge of this man. Even for all the struggles he recounts, he seems to tell a muted version of it, like he has to have total control over your perception of his pain instead of leaving it raw (which I suppose tracks for a major editor). Most of the book felt like a long series of names being dropped, encompassing every big name in the fashion industry. No doubt he was an influence, but as a collector and a culminator, not a cultivator or an innovator.

Quite good! A fine follow up!
Revisado: 05-20-24
One of the things I find most intriguing about this story is that it is definitely a take on the stigma of being in a same-sex relationship, and yet it uses the prejudices and discriminatory practices, only found in fictional werewolf culture as a stand for actual slurs. Knowing many people who are polyamorous, I can’t say I agree with the authors interpretation of what that type of relationship looks like. Overall though, the first book made me care about what happens to these characters and the second one made me care even more. I look forward to seeing where we go from here.

It’s so different from her other works, and yet you know it’s a Leigh Bardugo novel. Her style has matured well over the years, and her place as one of the finest authors of our time is well-earned.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Billy has given us a gift
Revisado: 02-01-24
I have loved Billy Porter ever since I first found out he had won the Tony in 2013. I never could have imagined all that they have been through to get to this point in their life, which I suppose is one of many reasons why they wrote it. Every emotion is in this book, and I sincerely hope anyone who reads it will pass it along to someone they love afterwards.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

As well-told as it was devastating
Revisado: 11-14-23
I’ve heard for years about how people who work with “the Creator” ended up worse off than they might have if they’d never met him, but I always loved iCarly because it brought me a lot of joy when I was growing up. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to see the clips or memes again without thinking of all the things Jennette shared in this book. I genuinely hope she continues on her road to peace and recovery, and that the people she surrounds herself with are proud of how brave she was to be vulnerable and honest in this way.

He made it so!
Revisado: 11-02-23
It takes a fantastic and admirable level of vulnerability to tell as much truth as Patrick Stewart does in this book. Naturally, he talked about Shakespeare, Star Trek, X-Men, and even American Dad. He also shares the parts of himself that are difficult to imagine, because they are imperfect and often involve mistakes that would be easy to judge (except they are the same ones many of us have made very often). Once you pick this one up, you won’t be able to put it down. Make it so!
