Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Odd accents
Revisado: 02-21-25
Overall pretty good. I can't figure out why the narrator did the dwarf with an Irish accent. But the rest of the dwarf's family did not have one. (Hmmm....kinda weird, puts one in mind of an Irish mythical figure of short stature and a magical nature.) Pretty good story, fairly well organized. A bit too wordy with a somewhat grandiose style. I took a star off for that. That style of writing wears on a person when they're trying to read a book that long. I actually started reading the book, but it became so tedious after 600 pages, I broke down and went with the audio version. LOTR it is not but it was, in the end, a fairly good story.

10 STARS!!
Revisado: 11-24-24
Wow. This was an eye opener for sure. I listened to this whole book in just a few days. I coundn't turn it off. As a nurse, I've become increasingly alarmed, no horrified, at the direction America's activists have led this country in. I'm old enough to remember when we admired activists as fighting the good fight. Now, sadly, their path has led them to the darkest most vile place possible. Child GM in any form and by any name has to be stopped. Dr Grossman doesn't pull any punches in this book. She lays it all out plainly for everyone of us to understand what is happening. I knew it was bad but this-this is appalling! I was liberal leaning for most of my adult life. But when they came after the children, let's just say (as distasteful as I personally found it) in the end, saving our nation's children was my top priority and I voted accordingly. Cut off your parts, split your tongue, dye your hair magenta and call yourself Cocainia the Bivalvular Giraffe for all I care. Do whatever you want with other consenting ADULTS, but don't you dare twist a single child into your s*ck mould. This will stop even if I have to vote for a dozen D.T.s!

Historia
Nowhere is there another lab like Dr. Bill Bass's: on a hillside in Tennessee, human bodies decompose in the open air, aided by insects, bacteria and birds, unhindered by coffins or mausoleums. At the "Body Farm," nature takes its course, with corpses buried in shallow graves, submerged in water, concealed beneath slabs of concrete, locked in trunks of cars. As stand-ins for murder victims, they serve the needs of science, and the cause of justice.

I worship Dr Bass. He is so amazing. I've even read his Human Osteology textbook. (Excellent btw) Dr Bass is a national treasure. His books are all just facinating. I even got the people at work hooked on his books. Not sorry!

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

A bit confusing
Revisado: 08-21-24
Loved it. The way it jumped back and forth in time to tell the different stories was a bit confusing. Sort of a grinding gears style of writing. The filling in of the characters' thoughts and feelings was a bit over dramatic for my taste. But these are small things compared to the overall story and narration-both very good. So bravo for this great telling.

Misleading Title
Revisado: 07-15-24
Not very well organized. The description/title is misleading. I wanted concrete information on menopause as experienced by people born with ovaries and a uterus=women, not gender affirming care info. Gender affirming care is the topic for a SEPERATE BOOK which would be titled.....get this..... 'Gender Affirming Care'. This book title was sneaky and underhanded. If I buy a book called 'All About Woodworking', I dont expect the book to have sections on mixing cement do I?

One of Terry's best. (Of course they are all his best!) I listen every Hogswatch eve as I wait for the Hogfather to come fill my stocking. I love spending time witb Death, Susan, Gaspode, Ridcully, the Burser and Nobby Nobbs. And of course Nigel Planer is the best reader and the best wizzard on the disc!

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 09-25-23
I adore this story and I took a chance on a different narrator. I love Nigel Planer and I've bought every Terry Pratchett book he has done. I really tried to like a different narrator but this person's voice is just awful. It grated on my ever lovin last nerve. This version was just so awful to me personally I couldn't listen for more than a few minutes at a time. Trying to slog through this book has been excruciating. I guess Nigel Planer has ruined any chance of anyone else ever reading Terry Pratchett to me.

Historia
Football has come to the ancient city of Ankh-Morpork - not the old fashioned, grubby pushing and shoving but the new, fast football with pointy hats for goalposts and balls that go gloing when you drop them. And now, the wizards of Unseen University must win a football match, without using magic, so they're in the mood for trying everything else. The prospect of the Big Match draws in a street urchin with a wonderful talent for kicking a tin can, a maker of jolly good pies, a dim but beautiful young woman who might just turn out to be the greatest fashion model there has ever been, and the mysterious Mr Nutt.

Revisado: 11-24-21
I finally read the book. This story isn't even close to the original book. I am so sad. But I did love the performance and the players did a great job. They had no control over the script they were handed.

Historia
Most of us grew up having always known when to touch wood or cross our fingers, and what happens when a princess kisses a frog or a boy pulls a sword from a stone, yet sadly some of these things are beginning to be forgotten. Legends, myths, and fairy tales: Our world is made up of the stories we told ourselves about where we came from and how we got here. It is the same on Discworld, except that beings, which on Earth are creatures of the imagination - like vampires, trolls, witches and, possibly, gods - are real, alive and, in some cases kicking, on the Disc.

Just a rambling rehash
Revisado: 11-02-21
I wasted a credit on this. It is just a rambling rehash of snippets of Terry's books mixed with superficial versions of actual human folklore. I am not impressed with this.
