Profane and sexual
Revisado: 04-27-25
The storyline was cute but the content was not. Lots of strong profanity. Sexual talk throughout and detailed sex scenes. I’ll be avoiding this author in the future.

Historia
"Believing that something is wrong with us is a deep and tenacious suffering," says Tara Brach at the start of this illuminating book. This suffering emerges in crippling self-judgments and conflicts in our relationships, in addictions and perfectionism, in loneliness and overwork - all the forces that keep our lives constricted and unfulfilled. Radical Acceptance offers a path to freedom, including the day-to-day practical guidance developed over Dr. Brach's 20 years of work with therapy clients and Buddhist students.

How to be a Buddhist and why it’s the best way
Revisado: 04-18-25
I didn’t realize that this book was going to be mostly about helping the reader to understand Buddhism and why their practices are the best way to live your life.
This book was recommended as a book to help someone get through a difficult situation/deal with difficult people that aren’t willing to change. This book was not helpful in that regard.
I have no desire to learn about Buddhism or the ins and outs about their beliefs and why I should adopt them as my own. Nor do I want to go through guided meditations (this book has multiple).
There’s a lot of philosophical and poetic “mumbo-jumbo” with one or two helpful tips. It’s the same stuff that I’ve heard from multiple self help and religious books.
Basically: meditate (pray), pause before you act, and love and forgive everyone.
If one was interested in learning more about Buddhism then this would be a book for them. For the average Jane or Joe looking for a good self help book, this is not it.

Just ok, Christian romance
Revisado: 03-23-25
I appreciate a clean romance, and the religious aspects don’t bother me. I do think that they could have gotten better narrators (i.e. a younger female for the female parts, and a male to do the male voices). Hearing a mature woman’s voice be used for all of the characters (ranging from a 5/6 yr old to an elderly couple, and all the ages in between) was not appealing to me. It got confusing at times (the voices sound all the same), and it took me out of the story.
The story itself seemed long and could have been edited down.
Overall it was just ok. I think I’ll be looking to other authors for more captivating audiobooks.

Historia
Kate Benton has wanted nothing to do with ranchers since she was fifteen and too-hot-for-his-own-good Landon Wyle caught her kissing his little brother during a cattle drive. Yep, that event pretty much put an end to a lot of things, like her dignity. But when her grandfather dies, he leaves his ranch to her with one provision: she has to live on Coyote Glen and keep it profitable for a year.

Good, clean romance

I enjoyed the story. The female main character made me want to rip my hair out a few times, but I appreciated her growth and the happy ending.
The book could have benefited from some better narrators.
Overall it was good but not great. I love this author, and recommend her other works.

Podcast edited to be a book
Revisado: 03-05-25
Going into this, you need to know that this is a podcast. It’s a bunch of episodes edited together to create an audiobook, but it’s still just like listening to a podcast.
The thing that bothered me the most is the LONG lags between edits/episodes. They are so long that a couple times I had to look at my phone to make sure that the “book” was still playing and hadn’t accidentally shut off or gotten paused.
It was interesting. It has maybe two swear words that were said, but mostly clean.
It looks at all the sides of body shaming as well as the trends seen throughout time. Yes, the main material is interviewing people who have taken the current weight loss drugs, but there is more to this audiobook overall.
It was ok for a break between my usual listens, but I won’t be keeping it in my library.

Revisado: 03-04-25
This children’s audiobook was just ok. I’m not thrilled with the idea of encouraging kids to steal (even if it’s for a good cause). There are better books out there.

Funny, irreverent, and intriguing
Revisado: 03-03-25
I wish this had been a clean read, but it has strong profanity and vulgar vocabulary. There’s talk of sex and sexual acts, but no explicit sex scenes.
I found this audiobook to be funny, engaging, and a little uncomfortable. The author narrates it really well - it’s like you’re listening to a friend talk on your couch. Very informal, unpretentious, and entertaining.

Narrator was a little boring, but otherwise a great listen
Revisado: 03-01-25
It took me a while to get into this book because the narrator is pretty boring. Halfway through and it didn’t bother me as much.
This is a clean Christian romance with some hard topics thrown in.
Overall it was good. I enjoy this author (wish she would choose different narrators though).

Big Fan! Language warning
Revisado: 02-27-25
4.5 stars There is some strong profanity, and an entire chapter on alcohol. Those personal negatives aside, I really enjoyed this audiobook!
I grew up watching all food tv, starting with PBS shows (all of which Alton Brown mentions watching himself), and moving on to Food Network shows when that network became a thing. I’m a huge fan of Good Eats and have fond memories of watching it with my dad. I became an Alton Brown fan and have watched all of the shows (and YouTube lives) that he’s put out.
I loved listening to Mr. Brown read his book, and hearing how things fell into place (or not) throughout his life.
I definitely recommend this book to any Alton Brown fan, with a language warning.
Side note: he does give a warning at the beginning of the book about “adult” talk; “food porn” is a real thing, as much as I hate the term.

LOVED it!!
Revisado: 02-26-25
With a name like “the perfect rom-com” the book already set the bar high. I have always loved this author, and I think this book is her best one yet!
It’s a clean romance (no swearing or sex), that made me laugh at loud.
I definitely recommend this book, and the audio version is performed impeccably well! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!
