Historia
Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

Absolutely wonderful - right to the end
Revisado: 03-06-21
I loved this book. It was the culmination of several books in terms of Inspector Gamache's issues within the department and boy is it great! Don't hesitate to give this a listen. It is worth the credit. And as always Ralph Cosham is excellent as the inspector.

Historia
Happily retired in the village of Three Pines, Armand Gamache, former Chief Inspector of Homicide with the Sûreté du Québec, has found a peace he'd only imagined possible. On warm summer mornings he sits on a bench holding a small book, The Balm in Gilead, in his large hands. "There is a balm in Gilead," his neighbor Clara Morrow reads from the dust jacket, "to make the wounded whole." While Gamache doesn't talk about his wounds and his balm, Clara tells him about hers. Peter, her artist husband, has failed to come home. Failed to show up as promised on the first anniversary of their separation. She wants Gamache's help to find him. Having finally found sanctuary, Gamache feels a near revulsion at the thought of leaving Three Pines. "There’s power enough in Heaven," he finishes the quote as he contemplates the quiet village, "to cure a sin-sick soul." And then he gets up. And joins her.

Very disappointing
Revisado: 03-06-21
I normally love Louise Penny but this one was very weak in terms of the story line and plot. I love all of the references to art but losing Peter this way was just a shame.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Historia
Tamed and Untamed - a collection of essays penned by two of the world's most celebrated animal writers, Sy Montgomery and Elizabeth Marshall Thomas - explores the minds, lives, and mysteries of animals as diverse as snails, house cats, hawks, sharks, dogs, lions, and even octopuses. Drawing on stories of animals both wild and domestic, the two authors, also best friends, created this book to put humans back into the animal world. The more we learn about what other animals think and do, they explain, the more we understand ourselves as animals, too."

Kind of preachy but interesting facts
Revisado: 11-04-18
Great animal behavior information but I wish the authors had not been so preachy about humans in comparison to animals. It was not necessary. Once people know the facts about animal intelligence, especially children, they tend to change their behavior toward them. We do not need to be flogged about how horrible and stupid we are.

Historia
Orphaned at an early age, Philip Ashley is raised by his benevolent older cousin, Ambrose. Resolutely single, Ambrose delights in Philip as his heir, a man who will love his grand home as much as he does himself. But the cosy world the two construct is shattered when Ambrose sets off on a trip to Florence. There he falls in love and marries—and there he dies suddenly.

Disappointing story at best
Revisado: 10-03-18
Excellent writing but I think the story was so very disappointing. Philip is a complete idiot and most certainly Rachel was in it all for the money and even if she didn't murder Ambrose her motives were so very sketchy I say "Guilty". Philip completely misses the love of a wonderful woman because he is so fixated on Rachael. Guess the entire point is that men are blind when it comes to beautiful women who sweet talk their way into their lives. I guess the same story could have easily applied if it had been a handsome man and a naive young woman. Oh well. I think I'll pass on other books by Du Maurier.

The beginning is tough and the ending is cheap
Revisado: 04-10-18
What did you love best about The Partner?
Hard one to answer. It was ok but I thought the ending was kind of cheesy and why are the leading ladies always so disappointing in Grisham books.
Would you recommend The Partner to your friends? Why or why not?
No, I think not.
Which character – as performed by Frank Muller – was your favorite?
I really could not say that I had a favorite.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It moves right along but it took me a week of listening.
Any additional comments?
I wish he was more creative with the ending. It wasn't "a twist" that really made any sense.

Historia
The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

Delightful!
Revisado: 04-10-18
Would you listen to The Litigators again? Why?
Yes
Who was your favorite character and why?
David of course! Gotta love a young guy who tossed the big paycheck for doing something meaningful.
What does Dennis Boutsikaris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He reads while I design and sew. And I like listening to his voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Oh it made me laugh so many times. The antics of the other two lawyers ( Oscar and Walter) of Finley and Figg cracked me up! I was actually laughing out loud so much my husband came in to find out what was so funny. Normally Grisham books are not so colored with humor so it was a lovely surprise.
Any additional comments?
Buy it! You'll love it.
