Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Riveting narration, absolutely excellent writing style and superb epic novel. I’ve listened to this series at least twice a year. It’s my comfort listen.

Unique and interesting story. Narration was very good and I’m totally glad I didn’t listen to some of the negative reviews. As someone who is very picky about my audio books, I highly recommend this book and can’t wait until book two and three are out on Audible.

Lots of action and suspense and great character development. The women characters grow and are strong. Disturbing yet accurate portrayal of society and the psychological effects of disaster. The sequel ends satisfyingly, but really can't wait for the next book??!

Historia
In the Borrowed World Series, America is brought to its knees by coordinated terror attacks against the infrastructure. After spending weeks walking across a violent and horrific landscape to reach his family, Jim Powell hoped they could weather this storm on their secluded Appalachian farm. They had prepared for this. They had armed for this. They could live without power and fuel. What happens, though, when the same qualities that drew Jim to his isolated valley begin to attract another armed group looking for a place to hide from the unrest of a starving nation?

Long awaited continuation of the Franklin Horton Series The Borrowed World. I was riveted from the beginning! The Steven Kingesque character development and action draws you in and surprises. My only regret is that it was not LONG ENOUGH! On to The Valley of Vengance!

Excellent listen!! Suspenseful and surprising!
Revisado: 04-09-16
I highly recommend the whole Borrowed World Series, but this third book is a step above. Twists and turns and suspense with nice character development. The story moves along nicely and ended way too soon. This narrator doesn't vary voices for each character much, yet he is enjoyable and pleasant. He's One of my favorites and I've listened to some of his other narrations as well. So now I wait for book four which won't come soon enough for me.

Historia
Nate Wilder suffers from panic attacks triggered by news reports of world catastrophes even when, rationally, the events should not affect him. Nate becomes a prepper to help him cope with the anxiety, stocking a makeshift shelter. So when nuclear disaster actually strikes home, Nate must employ truly heroic courage or fold to his fears. But in the aftermath of the bombs, it quickly becomes apparent that surviving the attack is just the beginning - there is far worse yet to come.

Very very good listen!
Revisado: 02-25-16
I always look for books in this genre which is one of my favorite and I'm quite picky. Some of the best I've found are Alas Babylon, One Second After, The Going Home Series and Good Fences. This was a really nice listen and I can't wait for the sequel if there will be one. I would recommend this to those that like the prepper and SHTF genre. It follows the formula and has more character development than some. Kevin Pierce is a great narrator and though he is not the best at multiple voices he is really nice to listen too and makes the main character come to life.

Passionate, earthy, deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable contribution to modern fiction: a vibrant new perspective of female life in the age that shaped present day civilization and values.
If you like The Red Tent, try The Harlot by the Side of the Road, a recounting of some of the most startling and explicit writings from The Old Testament.

A gripping and moving must read!
Revisado: 11-21-15
I am an avid reader and am very critical of my audio listens. Do not be scared away by its bible based story, as its history has ties to many religions and culture and is never preachy. The Red Tent I would recommend to women to revel in the richness on the history of womanhood and family heritage. I would recommend to men as well, to share the secrets of respect and culture with their mothers sisters and daughters. The narration was beautiful and the writing poetic. Going in I understood this book was loosely bible based but popped up as historical fiction so I went for it. I was having difficulties keeping track of all the names to begin with but the story became addictive and hypnotic and I just went with the flow. The author does take some poetic license, but you can expect all the drama, intrigue, suspense as in the bible stories, interwoven in an epic story of family heritage and long lasting love and respect.

Fantastic and worthwhile!
Revisado: 11-13-15
I'm an avid reader and listener and Ashes holds its own among not only some of the best post apocalyptic novels I've read but some of the best classic novels. The novel gets better as it unfolds and the story is well developed, intelligent, metaphoric and satisfying. If I had to present a comparison, The Stand by Stephen King comes to mind. However, I would go one step further and say that this series is over and above it. I would recommend the Borrowed World Series to women as well as men as I'm all about reading novels about empowered women. As far as the narration it was not a performance but it was comfortable listening and not at all annoying. Can't wait for book three!
