Historia
Technofeudalism says Yanis Varoufakis, is the new power that is reshaping our lives and the world, and is the greatest current threat to the liberal individual, to our efforts to avert climate catastrophe—and to democracy itself. It also lies behind the new geopolitical tensions, especially the New Cold War between the United States and China. Drawing on stories from Greek myth and pop culture, from Homer to Mad Men, Varoufakis explains this revolutionary transformation: how it enslaves our minds, how it rewrites the rules of global power, and, ultimately, what it will take overthrow it.

Difficulty grasping narrator’s accent
Revisado: 07-27-24
If you’re not too familiar with the author’s accent and you plan to listen while driving etc (not giving super focused attention), it’s not advisable to get the audiobook. Read it instead. In terms of content, I do share the sentiment that major online marketplaces (of which the author disagrees is a marketplace) having too much power is not good. However, the serf/lord comparison and issues don’t seem compelling. The solutions offered might get strong head nods by fervent socialists (except for people needing to pay for online services that are now free), but it’s too ‘out there’ for me. I imagine huge implementation and corruption risks that could serve up a dystopia worse than the one we have now.

Historia
Predicting society’s present addiction to technology, our challenges with data privacy, and the dramatic increase in drug overdoses and depression that have accompanied a technology-induced lack of purpose, The Unabomber’s vision of the future has become our reality. Of course, his means were disgusting and condemnable. But his message is more important than ever. If we want to thrive in an age where automation and artificial intelligence and rapidly making humans obsolete, it is our responsibility to understand and prepare for the technological machine we are up against.

This aged very well
Revisado: 12-11-23
I wholeheartedly agree with his diagnoses, especially with how far the relationship between technology and people has come. Many of his predictions have come true, and it appears more are in the trajectory of happening. A brilliant mind indeed. That said, I do not agree with his bombings. Nevertheless, this is a well written essay.

Historia
According to conventional wisdom, innovation is best left to the dynamic entrepreneurs of the private sector, and government should get out of the way. But what if all this was wrong? What if, from Silicon Valley to medical breakthroughs, the public sector has been the boldest and most valuable risk taker of all?

Too much reading of references
Revisado: 10-30-23
The meat of the content is good, however the narrator kept reading the source of references after almost every sentences, that I keep losing track on what she was talking about.

Historia
Peter Frase argues that increasing automation and a growing scarcity of resources, thanks to climate change, will bring it all tumbling down. In Four Futures, Frase imagines how this postcapitalist world might look, deploying the tools of both social science and speculative fiction to explore what communism, rentism, socialism, and exterminism might actually entail.

Fantastic
Revisado: 08-28-18
The topics are complex but is written clearly in simple language. Definitely a good book for the more political-conscious societies nowadays. Love the simplicity, comprehensiveness and also the occasional jabs of sarcasm :)
