Historia
Conspiracy theories are killing us. Once confined to the fringes of society, this worldview now has adherents numbering in the millions - extending right into the White House. This disturbing look at this alt-right threat to our democratic institutions offers guidance for counteracting the personal toll this destructive mindset can have on relationships and families. Author David Neiwert examines the growing appeal of conspiracy theories and the kind of personalities that are attracted to such paranoid, sociopathic messages.

Weird narration
Revisado: 08-01-22
I've listened to other audiobooks read by this author, but this time it was painful. He is almost monotone, adding pauses and new sentences where they don't belong. I found myself having to repeat the sentence to myself to understand what he said. In the end, I had to return it about 1/3 through because I just couldn't follow with that type of narration.
The content was mostly a recap of some of the crazy, scary, terrible things that have been done.

Historia
Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

Too long but a great story
Revisado: 06-14-22
This hooked me right away, I wanted to know what was going on to make a mother so cold. But the story drags on too long and could have been shortened by half. When we finally get to reveal its too quick, too easy.
It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking story. I’m glad I made it to the end.

Historia
It was the most radical human-breeding experiment in American history, and no one knew how it turned out. The Repository for Germinal Choice, nicknamed the Nobel Prize sperm bank, opened to notorious fanfare in 1980, and for two decades, women flocked to it from all over the country to choose a sperm donor from its roster of Nobel-laureate scientists, mathematical prodigies, successful businessmen, and star athletes.

Sperm banks are a wealth of contradicting problems
Revisado: 04-26-22
This was really interesting! Was it eugenics? Yep. Was it the way families were formed before speed banks were a mainstream option? Yep. Does it bring so many moral reckonings? Absolutely!
I enjoyed learning about the Genius Factory and all it’s foibles.
As a fan of Slate and David Plotz, I would have liked to hear this narrated by the author.

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

Weinstein is terrible
Revisado: 01-03-20
What an interesting story of how Ronan Farrow chased down this story despite being stalked, harassed, threatened and canceled.
My only criticism is I might have preferred to read this book instead of listen; Ronan's accents and voices can be a bit much.

Historia
Josie Bianci was killed years ago on a train during a terrorist attack. Gone forever. It’s what her sister, Kit, an ER doctor in Santa Cruz, has always believed. Yet all it takes is a few heart-wrenching seconds to upend Kit’s world. Live coverage of a club fire in Auckland has captured the image of a woman stumbling through the smoke and debris. Her resemblance to Josie is unbelievable. And unmistakable. With it comes a flood of emotions - grief, loss, and anger - that Kit finally has a chance to put to rest: by finding the sister who’s been living a lie.

Ended too neatly
Revisado: 09-16-19
Pretty interesting until the end when everything just works out - it could have ended with “and they all live happily ever after.” The story would have benefited from more struggle to get to the final resolution.
