Historia
Seth Andrews wasn't an idiot during his 30 years as an evangelical Christian. He wasn't unintelligent, nor did his IQ shift when he ultimately left religion entirely. He considered himself thoughtful, moral, reasonable, and at least as smart as the average person. In other words, he wasn't an idiot. Yet strangely, he often sounded like one.

Excellent
Revisado: 10-14-22
Agree with Seth, some of my biggest regrets in life are how Christianity made me talk like an idiot. A lot of people in Christianity are also ashamed of the absolute nonsense they have to repeat\support, but are too prideful to accept the obvious truth that the bible is absolutely pure nonsense.

Either neive or she has terrible confirmation bias
Revisado: 06-04-22
The good parts are regurgitation of trite common sense. The majority is about her deliberate ignorance and confirmation bias of how perfect Japanese culture is. I work for a Japanese company, the largest company in the world for their industry. They are nasty, disrespectful, 90% smokers that waste 25% of every day stinking up all the office door entrances. They are arrogant, refuse to take time to test products before selling them, saying our customers will give us feedback to address product issues. They treat women as slaves and demand women to go get their coffee or food or something from the printer and yell at the them if they don't actually run down the hall. Due to the chaotic work environment, employee retention is awful. In a recent company survey, the Japanese management gave themselves a perfect score across all metrics, but the middle management employees rated corporate at about 30-40% across the survey metrics. In meetings some of the management refuse to sit at a table with the team, because of their cultural caste system. If Japanese culture was anything like this author believes we would have a best place to work.

Very funny and leads you to find more comedy
Revisado: 03-24-21
This book is hilarious from beginning to end. Keegan is so funny and informative. An awesome side effect of the book reviewing history of comedy is how it covers a wide range of comedy genres and you will come away with a huge list of movies, skits, and comedians to look up and better appreciate. Definitely save and re-listen to again.

Historia
Overwork is the new normal. Rest is something to do when the important things are done - but they are never done. Looking at different forms of rest, from sleep to vacation, Silicon Valley futurist and business consultant Alex Soojung-Kim Pang dispels the myth that the harder we work the better the outcome. He combines rigorous scientific research with a rich array of examples of writers, painters, and thinkers - from Darwin to Stephen King - to challenge our tendency to see work and relaxation as antithetical.

Decent collection of common advice
Revisado: 08-21-20
Nice gathering of common helpful advice for men, with practical application examples from his own life stories. However in regurgitating commonly stated advice he fails to filter out some of the common awful advice. At times he encourages men to be arrogant jerks to claim a stake in society as a leader or provide some outward appearance. Then there is his ignorant ranting on decision making, saying it's better to take sides with some poorly reasoned decision than to not take sides at all. WTF. No competent psychologist would promote the typical religious cult mind control phrase: you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything. If you come out opinionated just to give the appearance of decisiveness, it will hinder honestly being open to learn and understand.

Eating is an indispensable human activity. As a result, whether we realize it or not, the drive to obtain food has been a major catalyst across all of history, from prehistoric times to the present. Epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin said it best: "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Extremely fun and interesting
Revisado: 12-28-19
Book is surprisingly fascinating with much humor mixed in. The author is very enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. I also appreciate his honest, respectful yet non-politically correct historical perspective. Left-wing snowflakes and bible fable righties will definitely be disappointed in historical truths and will likely be offended. Also grammar snobs will be exposed and will need to find a new pet peeve; language is continually evolving. This book is descriptive not prescriptive, it is perfect for anyone he loves learning and thinking about how things got to be the way they are.

Originally conceived as a joint presentation between influential thinker and best-selling author Richard Dawkins and former evangelical preacher Dan Barker, this unique book provides an investigation into what may be the most unpleasant character in all fiction. Barker combs through both the Old and New Testaments (as well as 13 different editions of the "Good Book"), presenting powerful evidence for why Scripture shouldn't govern our everyday lives.

An Honest Bible study
Revisado: 12-14-19
Most Christians are willingly ignorant of what is in the Bible. If you honestly study what the Bible actually says then you will become non-Christian as happened to me after 30 years of trying to justify the Bible nonsense and searching hebrew\greek meanings, searching for a group of people who knew the right interpretation of the 'truth'. Coming to the point to accepting the actual honest truth about the Bible can be disappointing and disorienting, but the Bible is absolute man-made nonsense. Once you accept this verifiable testable truth you will be able to live more happily and contentedly. Many others won't understand however, accepting truth over unity is by far the best life. mr. Barker's book will help you to know the actual truth of the destructive confusing and immoral book called The Bible.

To understand the roots of personality is to understand motivations and influences that shape behavior, which in turn reflect how you deal with the opportunities and challenges of everyday life. That's the focus of these exciting 24 lectures, in which you examine the differences in people's personalities, where these differences come from, and how they shape our lives. Drawing on information gleaned from psychology, neuroscience, and genetics, Professor Leary opens the door to understanding how personality works and why.

Awesome fascinating and fun
Revisado: 11-10-19
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was excellent how he started book with the difference between personality types and a personality traits. Traits are on a relative continuum, and will vary based on circumstance and other definable influences, where personality types are helpful generalizations but don't accurately describe personality across life's complexities. If you enjoy personality types as Myers Briggs or personality themes as Strengths Finder, this will provide deeper and richer reference to enhance understanding and application. Definitely a keeper to listen to again and again.

What impulse drove ancient cultures to create sites like Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, and the pyramids at Giza? Why are we so transfixed by their presence today? And what do they reveal about our ancestors-and humanity? The dynamic force of religious belief is responsible for some of the world's most popular and ancient locales.
