I've read Horns and Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, as well as a graphic novel collection of his. This novel is not up to the same level of quality. There are so many cliches and tropes in this novel: The disease that may not be a disease, the quiet brooding loner, the lovely young lady thrown into strange circumstances, the abusive husband who will show up again later in the book.

Kate Mulgrew does a good job of narrating the book and I would give another one by her a try.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People new to reading suspense novels, maybe.

What could Ambrose Ibsen have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

If the author had paid more attention to making the characters believable. Each character does or says things totally outside of their character (Spoilers follow) Kenji for example doesn't believe in the supernatural but at the first sign of something he just accepts it. Dylan wants nothing to do with this but is the first one to dive back in looking for information on EVP. None of them question the very glaring point that both groups find the transmission and end up at the shack at exactly the same time.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jake Urry?

The narrator was okay when he was narrating. When he was saying the dialogue there were characters that sounded exactly the same which was confusing. Kenji and Dylan both sound alike at times. Reggie and the woman at the house sound the same too.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Transmission?

Cut the whole thing way down and make it into a novella at most. There is too much going in circles on what the characters thing, and way too much re-telling the same information over and over.

Any additional comments?

There's better stuff out there.

Unrealistic Dialogue killed this book for me

What disappointed you about Daimones?

The unrealistic dialogue. The author seems to dislike using contractions for when people are speaking, even when most people would use them. A character saying "I do not like that" over "I don't like that" makes them sound wooden in many cases. The characters themselves are somewhat unbelievable too.
Lastly there are typos that make it into the narration. "She moved graciously" for example.

Which scene was your favorite?

The set up at the beginning of the story was very interesting. I enjoyed the idea but couldn't get past the halfway point.

What character would you cut from Daimones?

Not cut so much as re-write. The main character should make more logical choices or at least take less logical ones for emotional reasons. The female characters should do more than just stand in the background while the male character does everything.

Any additional comments?

There's better end of the world fiction out there.

I thought the narrator was good and did what he could with the subject.

Would you try another book from Richard Dawkins and/or Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward ?

Nope. Never. I didn't like their writing style.

What was most disappointing about Richard Dawkins’s story?

It should have been a factual, intelligent look at the idea and was instead presented as opinions. Their dialogue was childish at best and smacked of people who feel they have been wronged and need to set the record straight.

Would you be willing to try another one of Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward ’s performances?

No. Lalla Ward's voice is grating at best (and I usually prefer a British accent for readers)

What character would you cut from The God Delusion?

Not applicable.

Any additional comments?

Before I go on let me say that I share similar beliefs with the authors and at most I am an agnostic myself. This book should have spoken to me but I found very often that it just pushed me away instead.

Things wrong with this book:
1. As mentioned above much of what they say comes off as childish.
2. They criticize the religious types for not having factual info to back up their beliefs but then in many (though not all) cases they do the same.
3. They quote people then interpret for the reader saying: "what they really mean is..."
4. They also quote people then say that "given the time they couldn't say what they really wanted."
5. In many cases they tell us that so-and-so was really an atheist though give no proof to back up the claim.
6. Much of the start of the book is just a "woe-is-me. Atheists are so hard-done-by" that gets old really fast.
