Historia
Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading. But this is no ordinary book… It is the Book of Doors. Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Pain and Despair are important to be able to celebrate Happiness and Joy
Revisado: 02-05-25
Such a beautiful story. It is a coming of age novel, as well as one that makes one wish one could say their goodbyes and make their peace before inevitable Death takes them.

Historia
This book essentially launched the memoir craze that has been going strong ever since. The story is pretty grim: teen-aged Wolff moves with his divorced mother from Florida to Utah to Washington State to escape her violent boyfriend. When she remarries, Wolff finds himself in a bitter battle of wills with his abusive stepfather, a contest in which the two prove to be more evenly matched than might have been supposed.

A Scamp You Fall For
Revisado: 08-16-24
The reading is a fine one where Wolff's follies and heartfelt moments help one root for him on one side and wish one can shake him to tell him, "Oh, come on, don't do that. Make your mom proud. She has her own worries with which to deal!" on the other side. Boy Wolff, with the right nurturing surely could have gone to the best of Ivy Leagues but learned more from a hard knocks life.

Intelligent, incisive, and observant, the two very different sisters pursue thrilling, torrid affairs with their lovers, Rupert and Gerald, while searching for more mature emotional relationships. Against a haunting World War I backdrop of coal mines, factories, and a beleaguered working class, Gudrun and Ursula's temperamental differences spark an ongoing debate regarding their society and their inner lives.

Historia
Tales of human frailty and obsession, and of romance gone tragically awry, the thirteen stories in The Doll showcase an exciting budding talent before she went on to write one of the most beloved novels of all time. In these pages, a waterlogged notebook washes ashore revealing a dark story of jealousy and obsession, a vicar coaches a young couple divided by class issues, and an older man falls perilously in love with a much younger woman - with each tale demonstrating du Maurier’s extraordinary storytelling gifts and her deep understanding of human nature.
