Historia
Beginning with opium, the “joy plant,” which has been used for 10,000 years, Thomas Hager tells a captivating story of medicine. His subjects include the largely forgotten female pioneer who introduced smallpox inoculation to Britain, the infamous knockout drops, the first antibiotic, which saved countless lives, the first antipsychotic, which helped empty public mental hospitals, Viagra, statins, and the new frontier of monoclonal antibodies. This is a deep, wide-ranging, and wildly entertaining book.

Loved this book

As a graduate of pharmacy technician school I was riveted with the content. I really like how the narrator kind of presented the material in a voice reminiscent of Hugh Laurie's House! Fascinating facts and perspectives about pharmacology that just were not covered in Pharmacy School.

Historia
Tobacco was first cultivated and enjoyed by the indigenous inhabitants of the Americas, who used it for medicinal, religious, and social purposes long before the arrival of Columbus. But when Europeans began to colonize the American continents, it became something else entirely - a cultural touchstone of pleasure and success and a coveted commodity that would transform the world economy forever.

Very good!

Very good audio book. I liked that the producers chose a British voice talent to do the reading. It gives the book an air of sophistication. Highly recommend.

UFOs. Aliens. Strange crop circles. Giant figures scratched in the desert surface along the coast of Peru. The amazing alignment of the pyramids. Strange lines of clouds in the sky. The paranormal is alive and well in the American cultural landscape.

Good book
Revisado: 05-05-22
Good book. Introduces much material on the debunking of popular UFO and Ancient Alien myths. I’m not a believer, but I can detect a little bias in the authors tone. References to “space aliens” through out the book is a definite dig at people who claim to have seen ETs. A lot of material is repeated and the author did not speculate much on advanced technology that ETs may posses that enables their presence on Earth. In the chapter where he talks about interstellar travel he did claims “vast distances” make it nearly impossible for advanced civilizations to visit earth. This assumes FTL travel is impossible or that ETs might be extra-dimensional. Also, the parts on evolution and how “space aliens” would never produce beings that looks similar to humans. This negates the idea that we may be related on an evolutionary scale to various alien civilizations. He also negates the fact that advanced civilizations may have cloaking devices that make detecting them nearly impossible. Like I said, I’m not a believer but I’m being skeptical of the skeptics for discounting technologies that may exist.

Beautifully done presentation on Geology and Earth Science. It’s clear and concise and doesn’t get carried away with too much technical jargon.
